Geth Engineer in Mass Effect 3

I was playing Mass Effect 3 online yesterday. I came across a player whose tier had Geth Engineer. The Geth Engineer was providing a great defensive support to the team. I was unable to beat that Geth Engineer as hard as tried. Finally I got defeated. Impressed by its performance, I got a Geth Engineer in my tier too. I had enough gold to upgrade him to a high level. But when I used him in my team, he seemed so useless as compared to the other one I had faced earlier. Now I don’t have cash to get another replacement and upgrade that player. Can someone tell me how I should use the Geth Engineer properly so that he becomes powerful? I want to what should be the best strategy that will exploit every power and ability of the Geth Engineer to fullest and help me achieve success?

A fully upgraded Geth Engineer is incomparable to any other character in the game in terms of Sheild and providing the detailed information of the map and activities around the team. Being small in size has its advantages. He can easily sneak into the gaps between objects and walls. When he hides behind a cover, it becomes difficult to spot him. This ability can be utilized to scout the nearby area and its activities. You want to use him as the defensive player of the team, which he can be best with sniper and sitting in a corner. He has a great shield that drains very less amount of energy and remains active for long period of time. He also has healing powers which can be used to regenerate health of one’s team. I use the Geth Engineer as a disruptive player. By disruptive, I mean, when multiple opponent players are concentrating attack on single player of my team and chances of him of survival seems low. I order Geth Engineer to randomly snipe some of the enemies. Sniping drains a lot of energy from opponent which makes them to retreat back. This gives time to gain control and also heal the damaged team mates. When you find a turret in the map, order Geth Engineer to acquire it and combine its attack with defense of its shield. This will prove to be one of the most lethal combinations. Some turrets do not rotate full 360 degrees. On these turrets, there is always a danger of opponent attacking from behind. The shield only protects from frontal attacks, so it is necessary to provide defensive support from behind to Geth Engineer on turret. You can also order him to use hunter mode which increases his range and speed. I recommend that you keep the Geth Engineer in a corner of the fight area. He will be able to see maximum area and also use shield in desperate times.

Geth engineer has a good fitness level. You can increase it by three every time it is possible. The increase in Fitness also increases regeneration rate of shield by 10%. This is the unique ability is only available for Geth engineer. This is beneficial when using the Geth Engineer along with the shield on Turret. Though it seems a cool idea to have the fitness upgraded to 4 and 5 slots to have good regeneration capacity of shield, it also has its drawbacks. It will occupy the slots that you can use to upgrade the hunter ability. The result of this will be that the Geth Engineer will available to use as a defensive player and won’t be able to use it for attacking. If any situation arrives where you need to attack an enemy head on and run across them, then Geth Engineer will become a liability to your team. I use the shield of Geth to protect from heavy attacks like from explosives. It is not necessary to have shield activated all the time. Instead when you see a heavy attack incoming or possibility of one, you can just enable the shield for couple of seconds. Such a small amount of shield is also equivalent to continuously enabled shield.

If you want to have your Geth Engineer actively participating in fights, then I suggest that you provide your Geth Engineer with Falcon I-X and Phalanx/Carnifex X. These guns work best with Geth Engineer. If you want to use the Geth Engineer for defending or sniping from long distance, then you can provide him with Mantis I-X. It will provide a decent range and power to stay away from main fights and support you and your team. When having Geth Engineer to use a Mantis I-X, see to it that he is in such a position from where he can keep look on maximum part of the map. Also if any enemy is going towards him to fight, you should be able to stop the enemy before he reaches the Geth Engineer. This doesn’t mean that Geth engineer can’t fight lone battles, but it is good to preserve his health as he might spend power on healing himself. If using Geth Engineering in attacking strategy, you can give him Geth Plasma Shotgun. It is good for short and medium ranged attacks.

When controlling the Geth Engineer, if you find yourself in melee fight, then try to hit enemies on their backs. His heavy melee attacks are effective only on back. If the enemy seems too strong to get behind him or fight head on, the activate shield and start hitting the punch button rapidly. Heavy melee and combination of shield when used properly can prove to be one hell of lethal attack for opponent. The combo that you will get is also large. Once you start fighting an enemy, never retreat, Geth Engineer’s attacks are unpredictable. Then can suddenly do lethal damages. Mobility of Geth Engineer is low, running away from attacker won’t be a good option most of the time.
Here is the combination of weapons and its mods that I use for Geth Engineer,
    • For the Falcon, I use Extended Magazine I-V and Extended Barrel I-V.
    • For the Geth Plasma Shotgun on small maps, I use Extended Magazine I-V and Extended Barrel I-V.
    • For the Geth Plasma Shotgun on huge maps, I use Smart Choke I-V and Extended Barrel I-V.
    • For heavy pistols on huge maps, I use Extended Barrel I-V and Scope I-V.
    • For heavy pistols on small maps, I use Extended Barrel I-V and Arpen Mod I-V.
    • For the Mantis, I use Arpen Mod I-V and Extended Barrel I-V.

Re: Geth Engineer in Mass Effect 3

Geth Engineer is very useful for fighting against his own class when they appear as one’s enemies. He is also very powerful against Vanguards, Justicars and Krogans. Geth Engineer proves to be useless when facing Reapers. This happens because, Reapers attack from all the sides. Even if they come from one direction, they spread themselves all around. Many of the Reapers themselves are shielded, so it becomes difficult for fighting Reapers using Geth Engineer. TF2 engineer's turret and dispenser are the best turrets that a Geth Engineer can use. They are useful in almost every strategy, then be it offensive, defensive, crowd control or keeping enemy at bay. If you are trying to create a distraction or disperse a group of enemies that are difficult to beat, then you can hand over a Flamethrower to Geth Engineer and be assured to have enemies scattering in all directions. Use frequency perk, it is one of the best perk meant for use of Geth Engineer. It will reduce the healing time of your shield when used in combination with turret from 8 seconds to 3 seconds. If you find that enemy is easily destroying your deployed turret, then you can place it n a closed spaces between walls and props. The Overload ability of the Geth Engineer is one of the finest powers you will find in Mass Effect 3. This is one time use power which will not trigger combo when enemy is under its influence, but it worth using. It has a big regeneration time, so can’t use it often. Also never use it randomly; I suggest that you use it when under heavy attack. When Overload is triggered, all the enemies are stunned and stop attacking for some time. You can easily kill enemies turn by turn when they are under its influence. You can use a tech explosion after it to destroy all the shields. In stunned conditions, using tech explosion will immediately kill Centurions, Marauders and Rocket Troopers. If some of them doesn’t die, then they will just freeze, you will have to manually kill them. For most effective Tech Explosion in this situation, you can use Falcon.
Salarian Infiltrator can do the killing job efficiently, provide support to the team and also act as medic if needed. I think this is one great character for having in one’s team. Asari Adept is a good player too; she is good when provided with a pistol. She is not a team player but provides a good attack. Human Vanguard is not a powerful, but when used by a professional player who has great control over buttons, he can play whole game with him. Salarian Engineer is only good for his decoy power which can be used as great distraction for enemy. Drell Adept is a good team mate when combined with a biotic power specialist. Human Sentinel works best with combination of Asari Adept. Human Engineer has drone power which can be used as a substitute power for Decoy. His Overload and Incinerate powers are good when used properly. Human Adept is another weak character, but when upgraded he can be a great player. Human Infiltrator is good in using Cyro blast and Sticky grenades. The only drawback of him is that regeneration time of powers is very high and attack speed is low.

Re: Geth Engineer in Mass Effect 3

I suggest you that you should upgrade the Hunter ability of the Geth Engineer rather than upgrading the fitness and Shield. On upgrading the fitness, Geth Engineer will get built-in Wall Hack with either Caster or Shooter passives. The shield itself is powerful in default condition, upgrading it won’t make much difference, so I use the hunter mode and its upgrades. Hunter mode provides amplification of powers and their attributes along with enhanced cooldown time. You will find the shield more useful on lower levels. But let me tell one thing, on higher level other enemies to will come with shields, at that time defending won’t help. In other words, you need to attack more on higher levels and for that Hunter mode needs to be upgraded. One of my friends had a defensive Geth Engineer in his tier, which later became liability as enemies became tougher and stronger enough to break in even if shield was enabled. Hunter mode can be used for both defending as well as attacking, so anyways you are preserving the defensive strategy even with upgraded Hunter mode. In hunter mode, the heavy weapons will be very well powerful. You can use almost any heavy weapon to attack. I would like to say that strategy plays an important role how you utilize and upgrade your character and team mate.

Re: Geth Engineer in Mass Effect 3

When using Biotic powers of Geth Engineer, remember that not all biotic powers are compatible with each other. For example, using Singularity will not let you get combo on enemies that are affected by it. Stasis is a unique power, I don’t know who gets it, but it can bypass every defense including shields. You can hit the enemies even if their shield is active. But again it won’t bypass the armor of armored enemies like Atlas mechs and Turrets. Warp, Reave and Biotic Sphere are the powers that can be used both way, to create own combo or break oppositions combo. These are also the only biotic powers which can set up combo and be used against armored enemies like Atlas mechs and Turrets. Lift Grenade and Shockwave are able to build biotic combos on unprotected non-armored targets. Yu can create cyro explosion by using Cryo Blast and Cryo Ammo. Geth Engineer can also detonate cyro explosion by Biotic, Tech, Combat powers. It also deals direct damage to the enemies. There are also some combos that you can achieve using Geth engineer by use of Tech or Combat elemental based powers in Mass Effect 3.
