I don't really know what to be disappointed about, except the graphics. Which is understandable, considering the size of the map.
So you think the unit sizes and combat will be amazing, have you seen what’s been released so far. Also we seen no evidence of this in-depth political system and let’s be honest the castles are micro scaled attacking one is just going to be boring. they are not following lore or story and having a wall of ice is pretty important, they made it of stone for some reason can’t really say the graphics are mind blowing considering its a pc only title and the required specs are for hardware that’s like 4 years old.
I have found that graphics will mean nothing if the story line is good enough. Like what was just said some of the best games ever played were done with graphics that have been pretty poor.
Agreed pure graphical quality has little to do with how good a game is. The format, game systems, general gameplay and story matters more. The only thing really that matters with graphics is the atmosphere. All but story right now are big concerns of me, though.
In my opinion gameplay is the most important thing in a game; nobody will play a game that’s boring and broken. Framerate, controls, layout etc are all very important. Balance - Having 1 unit spammed on a battlefield gets boring fast. Having a simple Rock paper scissor effect is also boring! We need variance with units, but still avoiding the one all powerful unit that has no weakness! Storyline - Single player is important, but not as important as multiplayer. A single player campaign could take up 8 hours of your life, Multiplayer could take 80. Graphics - I recently played Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of liberty for the PS2, Difference game, great graphics when it was released but now they look poor. The game however was still as epic as ever. In all, Graphics aren’t all that important.
Honestly, the graphics are much better than I was expecting. I too don't particularly care about the graphics though.
I always had the impression that it was made of massive blocks of ice. I never imagined it as one solid mass of ice, but rather as a collection of ice 'bricks.' The way they did the graphics for it could very well be a mixture of ice and dirty snow, so I can definitely accept it as accurate. Addressing the dragon, I don't really care, since it will only be a campaign unit.
The fact that there were four dragons in the trailer bothers me slightly though. I always had the impression that the Targaryen’s only had three dragons when they first came to Westeros. This, combined with Aegon and his two wives, were the reasons the Targaryen crest is a three-headed dragon. If any of the above information is inaccurate, I apologize.
The point I'm trying to make though, is that the Targaryen’s having more than three dragons at a time seems like a mistake to me. An argument for it could be that there were three prominent dragons, and the other dragons at the time of the conquest weren't given names in the books. I recall the scene with Tyrion admiring the dragon skulls only naming three dragons.
I agree about the graphics, it won’t make or break the game for me. I'm a veteran of Age of Empires II, and their graphics weren't spectacular but it was one of the greatest RTS games I've ever played. I disagree with you on the wall though; I always imagined it as one giant block of ice. However, like I said about the graphics, this won’t stop me from buying the game. It's Westeros, it has the houses, and it has multiplayer. That's all I need.
