This kinda error mostly happens when some interruption happens while updating, so i will suggest you once you should uninstall and again installed and before installing steam again run a Cleaner, that will most probably remove all possible error and for cleaning the remaining file you should try CCleaner, and if even after that also you are facing this error then please tell with the further error, so that I or any other expert will able to help you on it.

Yeah this happened most of the time if you hadn’t install it properly or due to some error in file, so you can fix this error even by renaming ClientRegistry.blob and only after remaining it you will able to delete it, and as when you finish with deleting ClientRegistry.blob file in the system then try to reinstall the steam on your system and it should be work as per me. So try this.

You have installed it again but before that you have clean registry, and in normal mode I think many times it is not possible then for it you have to do this in SafeMode , and don’t choose normal Safemode, as you will require internet connection while this process, so better choose Safemode with networking and internet connection is again after installation you will get the update option, so for avoiding any further error, it better to do updates in Safemode with Networking.

You can locate the icon of the installed file on the desktop so first right click on it and you will get the option of properties there, then click on target filed of that icon and it will display this "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam" and after that you will require to makes changes in it, same as what I am writing now "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam” and clear that, so now most probably you won’t get the same error message again.

I feel that this can be a happening may be because of some error In downloaded file, so most preferably you should download the steam again if possible and installed it this time without any interference, and yeah cleaning the registry before installation of this downloaded file. As such error has happened with me many times and the same procedure works for me, so there are chances that it will also work for you.

Hey dude I had found the method to fix updating problem of Steam, as this error is in boom and discussion are going on in many thread, so what you have to do is Restart you computer first no matter whether you have removed any files for m the steam folders or not and Spam f8 till the time you gone in safe mode selection menu and now you have to go in safe mode with networking and run windows in safe mode and then run the Steam as usually and will get update without any problem, as I had experience this no need of uninstalling or anything else and after finishing with this you have reboot you computer, so that you can go back again to Normal windows mode.
