How to deal with path finding in sims3

I being playing this game from a year and I have a big family I have young children and half the time when I go to pick up my sim and the child will walk to the top of the stairs and my sim will do a lap around the house and cancel the action, while the child waits at the top of the stairs. Toddlers also do it sometimes when trying to play with their toys.

Oh yeah seen a lot of times, or sometimes just go to a bigger room and wait to be picked up. One time my son took his attention went to the Garden toy and sat down under the sprinklers and played out there! The thing that has been bothering me lately is Sims take an instrument like guitar or bass and will run to some random place down the hall or elsewhere in the house to play. I was so tired of putting the things back dammed in the music room door closed for a while.

I know, I go crazy with the interaction of adult with young children sometimes. In one of my favorite homes that took me seven hours to finish, my sim walk to the child, turn around and leave the room, sometimes the home before it is finally back to interact with them (getting noticed by the social worker at this point), or stepping on your feet and declare that there is something in your way.

That happens to me all the time so. There used to be, however, is a more recent occurrence probably added some patches or other (at least for me). On a related note I once had my Sims who live in an apartment and overtime that he would tell a parent to teach your child to walk or talk that would pick up the child enters the elevator and go all the way downstairs and out before they began teaching ability even though there was not enough space in the apartment.
