How important are neighbors in FrontierVille

Are neighbors really of so much of importance in the FrontierVille game on facebook since i am not able to move to a certain level because of the neighbors only i need to have certain number of neighbors in my FrontierVille City. Any help in this matter will be appreciated. Is it compulsory to plow and sow in FrontierVille too similar to the FarmVille.

Like all the other games on Facebook, the neighbors are a very important fact we need a certain number of neighbors in order to finish some missions or build some buildings. In addition, friends can give us valuable gifts such as food, energy or help us with publishing articles or feeds on bulletin board. Also help increase our reputation as a friend to our neighbors that have a bonus when they take us for a job.
