After a bumpy first component and a too americanized in the soul second episode, DIRT is back with the 3rd in full power! Through this new chapter, this racing simulation rally intends to put the dishes in the large and offer a maximum of content and emotion to the gamers. Obviously listening to the players and the comments made after the release of Colin McRae: DiRT 2 in particular which had marked a shift towards a certain Americanization of its contents, Codemasters immediately sought to reassure about the direction of this new episode . The rest will consist of rally-cross, but also events. In short, the career promises a hundred races, a dozen categories of vehicles, some buggies and so of course rally cars like the Ford Fiesta WRC 2011 Ford Focus WRC Citroen C4 WRC 2010 and 2010 as well as models of the legendary Group of old 60s, 70, 80 and 90.
Sponsored by rally driver Ken Block, DIRT series seems determined to make a big step forward with this third installment. Technically first with a major update of the EGO Engine, that had already been proven in previous games. Lighting effects are found much more elaborate than before, and vehicles are better integrated into the environment by immersing them perfectly through a multitude of details, like the shadows of trees on the hood, mud on tires or dust on the windows. Similarly, weather conditions are now pushed up visually. Snow (a first in the series), ice or rain, leaving their mark on the sets and vehicles, are obviously the floor more difficult to practice and thus directly affect the steering of automobiles. Like other damage taken that are as varied as realistic. The vehicles have to pass amazing graphics and see their numbers increase greatly. It also meets the second desideratum team Codemasters, after the technical aspect: the diversity and strengthening the content...
Among the sixty vehicles present - the largest collection of all components together, there is of course the Subaru Impreza STI Ken Block, but also WRC car this season and the next car of the legendary Group B or the Trailblazer (like the Suzuki XL7 Hillclimb). Not to mention most of the vehicles from the 60s (Mini Cooper S1275), 70 (Lancia Stratos HF Integrale), 80 (Opel Manta 400) and 90 and some Super Buggies and Stadium Trucks. The game also contains no fewer than a hundred tracks - twice before - modeled after actual paths and circuits and located particularly in Monaco, Los Angeles, Aspen, Monte Carlo, but also in new places such as Norway, Finland, Kenya or the U.S. state of Michigan. These landscapes rather hectic roads are also part of rally racing hard and fast that now occupy nearly 60% of the game (when the latter, one can choose two co-pilots, male or female, and five angles of view). Needless to say, the presences of these multiple sets are ideal for constant renewal challenges against opponents. Especially as not only a split screen horizontally offer to race against a friend locally but also online modes allow eight players to confront. Finally, note that in addition to a traditional career mode, menu features six game modes including Be A Pro, a series of tests in which the player must face among other drivers Ken Block and Kris Meeke.
Among the many additions compared to previous episodes, we must remember, however, two capitals that offer hours of fun. First, inherited and inspired athletic achievements of Ken Block on video: the Gymkhana. This is a series of mini-challenges in which the player, after selecting his car, performs tricks and excesses of all kinds, in order to push the pipe from his vehicle into a corner. These take place within an enclosed area (eg parking) and must be performed in minimum time. For example, the challenge requires a skid Poledancer 360 ° around a pole (much easier said than done as we could test it). The Airborne, meanwhile, proposes to run at full speed on a board and do a high jump. Trailer Trash while providing slip while going under the trailer of a truck. Obviously, the crumpled sheet is here required since the tests are numerous. Fortunately, the damage received by the vehicle - during our testing an Audi Quattro ultra sensitive - do not affect driving, unlike other modes of play and that's good because it takes some time before reaching to control the slippage using the handbrake!
Second major addition: The DC Compound, a kind of extreme Gymkhana. Indeed, it is a pregnant banded ramp jump, hurdles and all kinds of elements within which the players (up to 8 at the same time online!) Carry out missions sometimes surreal. Thus, for example it is possible to play a capture the flag with two teams of four players. But you also have to deal with robots and destroy them with your cars; players are then divided into four teams of two. Here, delirium seems de rigueur, especially as the DC Compound evolves according to the career mode and gradually reveals three zones filled with challenges. The first is reserved for the slip and speed. The second, consisting of multi-storey structures, seems dedicated to multiplayer races (like the game of cat and mouse, a chase that we imagine frenzied). Finally, the last area - the largest - offers to make huge jumps and stunts crazy. In short, this CD promises to give Compound taste particularly entertaining and unique to this third episode of DIRT.
