Age of Conan was an incomplete game on release. There was a lot of issue. It had reduced reception and thus unsuccessful. As a game, I enjoy playing it. However, for a massively multiplayer online game to do well, it needs more than just game play. World of Warcraft is familiar to most people. Many people I knew that played World of Warcraft were new to videogames in general. It's more of a social phenomenon in my opinion. Technical aspects aside, a lot of people played World of Warcraft because 10 of their friends did. You then make more friends in game. Whenever some of us wanted to try another massively multiplayer online game, it just wasn't the same.
