First of all I don’t think it is your Windows 7 problem, I am also have the Windows 7 and I don’t have any problem while running it. I think it is your graphics card driver issue. For that you have to just reinstall the latest driver. Also you can just try graphic setting by just lowering the graphics setting in the game option. Can you just post your PC configuration? It will help me to solve your problem more freely. So pleas try to post your configuration here.

I am also thinking that it is not your Windows 7 problem. You are using NAVIDIA GEFORCE 8400 GS is very slow graphics which is generally not designed for the gaming purpose. It is the graphics processor which work grat for only watching HD DVD and Blu-ray movies on a PC. I will advise you to buy GeForce 9500M GS. It will work more faster than 8400 GS series.

Re: On Windows 7 GTA IV runs tremendously slow

To go through this problem I don’t thing you need to change you Graphics Card directly. First try to update graphics card driver. Also you can run full PC Anti-virus scan. Also you can perform defragmentation task for improving the speed of your PC.
At a same time you can do one thing before run the program, just close all anti-virus scan, yahoo messenger, etc.
If all the above thing not work for you then try to upgrate your graphics card to improve the performance of your PC

Try all the above thing and I hope this work for you.

Re: On Windows 7 GTA IV runs tremendously slow

After trying everything under the sun, i give up on GTA-IV

I have an i7 3.2
16GB high performance ram
GTX 570
Windows 7 premium

After trying the following, my game is still lagging out and cannot seem to avoid freezing for a few seconds every few seconds to what i assume is to load the area detail or AI maps etc.

Changed all settings to lowest, including resolution, texture quality etc - both on very high and lowest available, no difference at all.
Changed settings in the nVidia panel to accomodate this aswell to no luck
I regularly defrag my drive and perform cleanup aswell - currently at 40% of HDD capacity on a 10k raptor - drivers are all up to date and i have no problems running DX11 games on ultra settings like RF: armageddon - so i know its not my system.
Reinstalling the game proved no use and my malware/virus hasnt picked up anything i honestly have nfi what is causing this, and im software engineer by trade for crying out loud!
Has anyone else come across this unusual problem, or is it just me?
Cheers

Re: On Windows 7 GTA IV runs tremendously slow

Hi taz_1990,

Can you check whether yor pc is getting heated up while playing the GTA IV game on your windows 7 machine, as heating could be a problem as well slowing down the gameplay. Have you also tried to patch the game because this game a very rare graphic glitch which makes it lag. Patch it too 1.0.2.0 not further nor less and check if it is giving similar problem or not.

Re: On Windows 7 GTA IV runs tremendously slow

Yea its not my pc heating up - keeps constant even when overclocking.
Im not sure what patch is on GTA, but it should be the latest, i updated it like a week ago when i purchased the game, ill look around for that specific patch and give that a whirl.
And a very rare graphic glitch you say? yea that sounds like my kind of luck i bet your right >.<
thanks for the tip off and ill post up if it works or not incase anyone else has this problem

Re: On Windows 7 GTA IV runs tremendously slow

1. go to control panel

2. System and Security

3. Administrative Tools

4. double click System Configuration

5. the 3rd tab "SERVICES"

6. look for "windows event log" and uncheck it.

7. Click apply.

8. Problem solved.
