Suggest some good FPS games

I have been a big passion of playing pc games and been looking out for some good First person shooter games. Please suggest me out some of the best games that will really help me out to get the things to be played well and perform accordingly as required. I hope this will surely help me out to get the desired implementation to get worked well. I use a desktop and it is been installed with Windows Xp.
