Speedball 2 - Tournament issues while execution

Hello. I have a desktop machine and it is been installed with Windows 7 operating system. I have installed a game application that is Speedball 2 - Tournament. The problem is that when the game is been executed it starts to lag a bit and then freezes for sometime. Why is this happening? Please help me out in sorting the issue. It would be a great help.
