I recently installed Everquest on this computer but I am facing some problems while playing the game. FPS drops while playing Everquest. I think the configuration of the computer is good enough to run the games like Everquest but still the game lags and I am not able to figure out why it happens. Please help.

I think there must be some processes running in the background due to which the game is lagging. Whenever any process is started on the computer, it takes some memory and CPU usage. Therefore if many processes are running at the same time then the CPU will take some time to process that many processes. Also gaming applications take up lot of CPU and memory space, hence if any other process is also running at the same time then the game will surely lag. Before running the game, open the task manager and then terminate all the unwanted processes which are taking up lot of CPU and memory usage.

Try configuring the graphic card and then check if the game lags or not. Nvidia graphic cards have default settings to run High end graphics editing software. These settings may create problems while running some games. Therefore configuring the game again will help you solve the problem. To configure the graphic card, open the graphic properties and then click on Manage 3D settings. Select Triple buffering and enable force off. Select Anistropic filtering and enable force off. Select Vertical sync and enable force off. Once all the settings are done, save and apply the settings. Now try and run the game and check if the game works properly.

Multicore processors are not typically meant for playing games. Multicore processors have more than one processor. Whenever any application is started on the computer all the processors start processing the applications together which may create problems while playing certain games. Try disabling the extra cores of the processor and then see if the game lags or not. To disable the extra cores, start the game and open the Task manager. In the processes tab, locate the process of the game and then right click on it and select affinity. Remove all the extra cores and click on OK. Resume the game and see if the game works properly.

Windows 7 does not support all the games which are supported by Windows XP. If the game is not supported by the operating system, then the game will either not run at all or will give some problems while running. The list of all the games which are supported by the Windows 7 operating system is available on the official Microsoft website. Check the list of the supported games and see if the game which you are trying to play is listed in it. If the game is not listed in the supported game then there is nothing much you can do about it.

The system memory of your computer is too low to run Windows 7 and gaming application together. The minimum requirement of system memory of Windows 7 operating system is 1gb. The gaming application requires lot of CPU memory for running smoothly. Therefore when the game starts the computer must be not able to allocated the required memory and hence the game is lagging. Upgrading the system memory of the computer will improve the performance of the game.
