Re: Rise of Nations "Error reading xml file"

Most probably this error occurs when there is any interference from another program. The only way i can suggest you for this is to do the clean boot procedure before you start the game to play. Clean boot stop the another programs to interference from starting automatically. To do a clean boot procedure on Windows Vista, go through this:-
  1. Go to Start, type msconfig in the search line and press Enter.
  2. Click Selective Startup on the General tab in System Configuration Utility dialog box and clear the Load Startup Items check box.
  3. Now select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box under Services tab.
  4. Click Disable All, and then click OK.
  5. Now reboot the system to take the effect.
Thats it.. now try playing the game, hope there will be no more errors.

Re: Rise of Nations "Error reading xml file"

According to Microsoft, the title bar of the error message has one of the following files listed:
  • ./data/soundfiles.xml
  • ./data/soundglobals.xml
  • ./data/sound.xml
  • ./data/soundtypes.xml

Clean Boot procedure can definitely fix this error because when you start Windows by using a normal startup, several applications and services start automatically, and then run in the background. These programs include basic system processes, antivirus software, system utility applications, and other software that has been previously installed. These applications and services can cause interference when you install or run a program, such as Microsoft Flight Simulator X or Streets & Trips 2010.

Re: Rise of Nations "Error reading xml file"

This is an common error with Rise of Nations: Thrones and Patriots that occurs if the installation program cannot read the 1.03 update files on the game CD-ROM. You need to obtain the latest update to fix out this issue.

The Rise of Nations Update v1.03 is primarily focused on multiplayer (MP) issues. This manual patch is only necessary if you are having trouble autopatching the game. If you encounter any errors installing the new patch, you should uninstall, install the game again and then apply the new patch.

Download Rise of Nations Update v1.03
