The error message "Error decoding - The compressed data is corrupted or unreadable" may occur if one or more of the following conditions does not met to run Dungeon Siege:
    • Resource files Dungeon Siege, currently stored in memory, are damaged because the hardware settings are incorrect.
    • Like Dungeon Siege interacts significantly with almost all internal systems to the PC, it is very sensitive to hardware.
    • A resource file (. DSRE) is damaged.

To determine if resource files are damaged, perform a cyclical redundancy check (CRC, cyclical redundancy check) on file. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Click the right mouse button on the desktop, point to New and click Shortcut.
    2. Click Browse, click DungeonSiege.exe, then click Open. By default, the path is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Dungeon Siege\DungeonSiege.exe.
    3. Right quotation marks ( ") in the Command Line box, type a space and type verifydata = true.
    4. Click Next, then Finish.
    5. Double-click the new shortcut. The CRC takes several minutes.
    6. Click the right mouse button on the desktop, point to New and click Shortcut.
    7. Click Browse, click DungeonSiege.exe, then click Open. By default, the path is "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Dungeon Siege\DungeonSiege.exe.
    8. Right quotation marks ( ") in the Command Line box, type a space and type verifydata = true.
    9. Click Next, then Finish.
    10. Double-click the new shortcut.

If a file fails the CRC test, it means they are damaged.

    5. Once the uninstall is complete, verify the integrity of your hard drive searching for lost clusters and errors. To do this, follow these steps:

If you own a computer purchased from shop and you change the configuration clock frequency of the processor and other BIOS settings such as memory, contact the manufacturer of your computer to help you restore factory settings. If you have not sold a computer, such as a computer that you've prepared yourself and you set the clock of the processor and other BIOS settings such as memory, contact your hardware manufacturer for it helps you configure these settings.
