| Problems with world of warcraft
Hey, i am an avid fan of World of warcraft. Have been playing it online for the past 1 year without an issue. But recently i started experiencing an issue. I have got a new internet connection since i moved to a different state. My problem is that World of warcraft keeps getting disconnected or i get a lot of lag when i am in a situation where a lot of the resources such as the CPU are consumed, in such situations many players are involved simultaneously as well. I have observed one more thing, when i leave my computer running for a few days nonstop and then try to restart it, it doesn't boot up. I have to use a fan to blow on it by opening up the case to get it to start again. I am not sure what is causing the issue. I called my internet service provider to check if its an issue with the connection but they told me it isn't so. I am wondering whether overheating is the cause of my issue, which seems unlikely considering i get disconnected and not freezing. I never had this problem before so please guide me on how to go about solving this. I am running Windows XP. Thanks in advance. Last edited by Garrick : 23-12-2009 at 05:55 PM. |

Hey i play world of warcraft online a lot too. But have never have faced the issue you have mentioned above in terms of the internet connection. It looks like a problem with overheating most probably. You should install a temperature monitor to keep tabs on what kind if heat is being generated when most of the resources are being used. When a lot of players are playing at the same time on a server, you are bound to get some lag because of the kind of ping the other players have. But that does not justify you getting dropped from the server or disconnecting. Check your system for overheating is what i would advice you to do. |

It is possible that your connection isn't fast enough as the others playing on the same server at the same time. Possibly this and the high amount of packets being transferred is resulting in it taking a toll on your connection. Close any downloads or torrents you might have running in the background. You also need to keep a check on the temperature of the system. As start using up more resources, it takes a toll on your system leading to more heat being generated. Make sure you have a fan properly installed to cool it. You having to cool it using your external fan doesn't sound like cooling is being properly done inside the system.

Well custom add-on's being installed for the game can lead to random disconnects. Titan panel is one such module. Make sure you have all such modules disabled and see if it helps you. On the network front, make sure you have the latest drivers installed on the system. Also if you are playing by connecting to the internet through a wireless connection then change the wireless to "b" instead of "b/g". This has been known to work for some people and hope it helps you too. |

Make sure your drivers are up to date. This applies to your video drivers as well as the network adapter. Hope you have made sure that the inside of your system case is clean. If you plan on cleaning it use canned air which you can get from a hardware store. Pay most of your attention to the heatsinks and fans. This applies to fans on both your cpu and gpu if any is present. You could also run a diagnostics test by installing everest which will give you an accurate result about the system in terms of memory benchmarks, hardware etc. You can also fix the problems that are reported by it. You can also run Hwmonitor which will tell you the temperature reached by your system. Install it and run it while playing warcraft and you will get the minimum, maximum and average temperature attained while playing the game. This should help you in getting an idea as to overheating is actually the problem or not. Good luck, hope this helps. |

Hey guys, thanks a lot for all your responses and suggestions. Hitman it seems your suggestion has worked for me. I changed my wireless to b instead of b/g and it has worked wonders. I played the game yesterday seamlessly without any disconnection even during battles. I also cleaned up my computer while i was at it trying to figure out if overheating was the problem. Have installed everest and it seems to be giving results which are normal judging by the standards i checked on. I am of course running and doing this during my gaming sessions to be sure. Thanks again to you guys for solving the issue. |
