Age of Empires 2 multiplayer over WIN 7

I have a problem. I want to play AOE 2 multiplayer.
Laptop Sony Vaio - Windows 7 Ultimate
Laptop HP - Windows Xp Professional
PC - Windows Xp Professional
Router wireless Dlink
And the laptops are connected wireless to the network except the PC. The network between all of them works great. Pings, exchange of files, all i can think.
So here comes the tricky part. When i want to play age of empires 2 or heroes i got problems. The pc and the laptop with windows xp can play with no problems in multiplayer, but for some reason i can't connect the laptop with windows 7 to the game. It says unable to connect to the game. So i tried to create the game with the win 7 laptop and connect the rest to the game. Doesn't work that way either. I hate Win 7. So the problem its not with the network its with the win 7 laptop.
I tried everything disabling firewalls. Installing LLTD responder in xp machines. Port forwarding on router. Installing directX 9 older version and latest version on all machines. Nothing worked. So XP machines works fine beside win 7 machine on multiplayer aoe. Anyone can help me with that ?

May be it is possible that windows 7 does not support multiplayer mode of Age of empire 2. As you are connecting both the laptops using a wireless connection, it can also create problems while connecting. Wireless connection is mostly configured into a half duplex connection. half duplex means only one device can transmit at a time. In gaming you require a continuous data transfer which cannot be achieved on a wireless connection.

I think this could be happening because of the DirectX. Have you updated the DirectX with the Microsoft. If the Direct X is not matching up with your game then you cant play the game. So first update the DirectX and then again try to play the same. Hope this will help you. Thank you

It could be that windows 7 may not support well the game as it needs features with good addons and compatibility should cope with the operating system. You need to check for the compatibility of the game to the system. Also upgrade the drivers for the graphic card of your system. This shall then help you to get to a better solution.

This needs to be revisited. I have the same issue: Age of Empires 2 (w Conq) on Windows 7 (Pro, 32bit), multiplayer not working.

My status:

Two laptops:
- core 2 duo, 2gb ram, freshly installed Win7 Pro 32bit, AoE2 w Conq exp
- core duo, 2gb ram, freshly installed Win7 Pro 32bit, AoE2 w Conq exp

Home network:
- SMC Networks modem/router unit

Actions taken:
-update directx
-install directx 9.0c specifically (done after latest update was already installed; installer instantly said it had completed installation; when accessing dxdiag, directinput errored out and wouldn't launch, if it at all matters)
-use tcp/ip multiplayer mode instead of lan mode
-both users try creating both modes
-tcp/ip while router is disconnected from internet
-disable windows firewalls, router firewall, antivirus
-set static ip on both
-compatibility to xp mode
-patch 1.0c
-run as administrator
-try w/ network cable instead of WL
-laptops can communicate with each other outside of the game

Out of ideas for now, but would hate to lose this ability. May have to set up a partition with xp just for this.
