Not able to set up Xbox as a Media Center Extender

One of my friend is a Windows Xp user and also having a Xbox 360 console. Yesterday when we were trying to set up Xbox as a Media Center Extender on Windows XP the system was giving an error message stating "An Xbox 360 cannot be found on the network." As we both are new to Xbox 360, we are not much aware of this error. Could you guys please help us out of this ? Thanks in advance.

Most probably this error occurs while setting up Xbox 360 console as a Media Center Extender if or when McAfee Privacy Service is already installed on your system. Here you din't mentioned that do you have this service installed or not. If yes, than McAfee Personal Firewall Plus application (either standalone or as part of the McAfee Internet Suite) may be preconfigured to allow Media Center Extender to connect to your Media Center PC. Do let me know if you have installed McAfee on your system...

Yeah, thats correct. I can see the McAfee Privacy Service installed on my friend's system. He had already made some firewall configuration but still we can't set up the Media Center Extender. Please make me know the configuration of Personal Firewall Plus.

To manually configure or verify the configuration of Personal Firewall Plus, follow these instructions:

    • Click Start, click All Programs, point to McAfee, and then click McAfee Personal Firewall Plus.
    • On the left side of the window, click Internet Applications. A list of applications and their permissions for accessing local networks and the Internet are displayed.
    • Make sure that the following applications are included in the list of applications:
      • Media Center (Ehshell.exe)
      • MCRD Device Service (Mcrdsvc.exe)
      • Generic Host Process for Win32 Services (Svchost.exe)
      • Media Center Extender Tuning Wizard (Mcxnettw.exe)
      • MCRMgr (Mcrmgr.exe)
      • Media Center Extensibility Host (Ehexthost.exe)
    • If any of these applications are not included in the list, click New Allowed Application, locate the c:\WINDOWS\ehome folder (or the c:\WINDOWS\system32 folder if the Svchost.exe file is not included), and then select the application’s file name. Repeat this step for each application that does not appear in the list.
    • In the Permissions column for each application listed in step 3, make sure that Allow Full Access is displayed. If not, select the application in the list, and then click Allow Full Access under Change Permission To in the lower right-hand corner of the window.

Thats it... Now your firewall is configured to allow your Media Center Extender to connect to your Media Center PC.

If the problem still exists, than just uninstall the McAfee Privacy Service and Run the Windows Media Center Extender Setup program again. If possible run the setup in the Media Center Extender Manager. To do so click Start, point to All Programs, click Accessories, click Media Center and then click Media Center Extender Manager. On the File menu, click Add a New Extender or Add a New Xbox 360, and then follow the instructions on the screen.

Once the setup is completed, Click Start -> Run and type "firewall.cpl", click OK. Now on the General tab, click Off (not recommended) and click OK. Thats it!!!
