    Can't install Dungeon Keeper 2 on XP

    Hello to everyone, my question is ... Isn't DK2 compatible with windows xp? i used to play it on win 98 witout any issues. But it doesn't works on xp, i have windows xp sp2. DOes anyone around here found DK2 to work on XP? then please let me know. Waiting for your valuable response.

    It should work in XP. BTW What is your system specs? Following is the minimum system requirements for Dungeon Keeper 2.

    • Pentium 90MHz Processor
    • 16MB RAM
    • 4X CD-ROM Drive
    • 65MB Hard Disk Space
    • DirectX compatible Sound Card
    • 1MB DirectX compatible SVGA Video Card
    • DUNGEON KEEPER 2
    • Pentium 166MHz Processor
    • 32MB Hard Disk Space
    • 4X CD-ROM Drive
    • 2MB DirectX compatible Video Card
    • DirectX 7
    • 300MB Hard Disk Space
    • DirectX compatible Sound Card

    Perfprm the following steps to make DK2 to work under windows xp:

    • First install the game setup.
    • Now install 1.7 update patch of dk2.
    • Run UnSafeDisc 1.55 TO remove insert key cd error.
    • Now delete the DKII.exe, not the .ICD file.
    • Rename Testme.exe to DKII.exe.
    • Play game and enjoy.

    • Full install Dungeon Keeper 2.
    • Apply patch 1.7.


      (if you during installation get an error message saying "Can't run 16-bit Windows Program. Cannot find file..."
    • then go to Start - Run and type regedit. Make sure the following key is disabled (set to 0):
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem\NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation=0)
  5. Install Windows Application Compatibility Toolkit 3.0 (use Google to find it - it's free from Microsoft).
  6. Run the program and create a new database.
  7. Click Fix.
  8. Name of the program to be fixed: Dungeon Keeper 2 - Name of the vendor for this program: Bullfrog Productions.
  9. Program file location: Browse for the location of Dkii.exe in gamedir.
  10. Operating System Modes: None - Click Next.
  11. Compatibility Fixes: select EmulateSlowCPU - Click Next.
  12. Click Finish.
  13. Choose File and Install and then exit the program.
  14. Create a shortcut for Dkii.exe, choose properties and add

    32biteverything in the Target commandline
    (it should look something like this: "C:\Games\Dungeon Keeper 2\Dkii.exe" -32biteverything).
