Runaway 3: A Twist of Fate (PC, Wii)

Third chapter of the adventures of Brian Basco and Gina Timmins, Runaway: A Twist of Fate is definitely the adventure game the most anticipated of the year. It must be said that with the two previous titles, the studio Spanish Pendulo has built a solid reputation. Decor, savory characters and dialogues, stories and riddles incredible ornate ... All these ingredients are back for our pleasure.

If Runaway: A Twist of Fate crystallizes as the expectations of fans, thanks to these qualities, of course, but also because the second part (The Dream of the Turtle) ended without making any conclusion to the plot. Yet, as has already been announced, this new episode is not the direct result of the previous. . Therefore, A Twist of Fate is an independent history, which can be understood without having lived the rest. Do not panic, the outstanding issues should still find answers, and can be counted on to distill Pendulo winks that will detect eyes sharpened.

Now let's turn to this new scenario. This time, the situation is serious: Brian is flatly accused of killing a colonel Kordsmeier ... During his trial, he seemed stricken with amnesia. Here he is thus led to Happy Dale, a psychiatric hospital, where Dr. Bennett must determine whether it is really sick or is a simulation. The second chapter of the adventure (only playable in the preview version) is then to escape from the asylum in the shoes of Brian. That's good, one of the residents, is precisely customary techniques of evasion of duty, as is regularly the coach. It will therefore offer Brian a plan to sneak into the ducts. But things do not be so simple, you guessed right. Another patient is determined to thwart the ambitions of freedom. Our heroes will have to initiate its neurons and involve the various objects available to achieve its purposes.

The interplay between Brian and the various protagonists of asylum (residents but also staff) is at the heart of this sequence and leads to awkward situations. It must be said that with such a context, Pendulo was let go in offering us a gallery of characters even crazier than usual, as Marcelo, roommate Brian and former glory of the show, whose talent and mime contortionist will be very useful ... There is also the Dean Montgomery, 102, who thinks on Highway 66 driving the ping-pong ... The whole is placed under the authority of the terrible Miss Palmer, who has nothing to envy Nurse Ratched of Flew Over a Cuckoo's Nest. All this obviously gives rise to numerous conversations, which allowed us to verify that the dialogues are just as funny. At least when the merry dingoes that live Happy Dale willing to communicate, which is not always easy.

History and delusional characters, humor everywhere ... So far, A Twist of Fate was all good. What about the gameplay? Regarding the few puzzles it has been given to solve, it is also rather successful. Some problems are still too twisted to be solved, but less persistent gamers will rely on a support system. In the manner of a Secret Files, the game now offers a feature that displays all fields of interactive art director (always as pretty, by the way). Something that had already been incorporated into the DS version of The Dream of the Turtle. Another small improvement in the gameplay: it is possible to move quickly within a screen by double-clicking, which makes up more fluid. The transition takes place smoothly even when with a little transparency effect, that history does not feel that Brian teleports so Star Trek. This little insight has only increased our desire to see more! A wish will become reality in late 2009.
