left 4 dead computer crashing problem

hi guys. Well i know there are many threads over the internet about the game crashing. In my case it happens like once every day i play it or so. It makes repeating sounds but it doesnt even allow me to alt tab so i need to restart my computer. I did try many things including going to advanced options in game and making multicore rendering (disabled) and also going task manager-processes and double clicking left4dead-set affinity and unclicking 2 cpus. I really need some help!

my computer specs are:
Windows vista home premium
intel(R) core(TM)2 quad cpu Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
4gb of ram
NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT
Realtek hd audio output

300gb hard drive.

Oh and also i heard that the nvidia drivers are the problem(not sure) and that i shud go bak to an older version. How do u even do dat and is it even possible in my case lol.

Have you tried another game on this PC . have you tried updating your system video card driver : Click here to Update All Your PCs Drivers

yeh left 4 dead is the only game that freezes
