The Legend Of Zelda: Spirit Tracks Preview

After a first opus named DS The Legend Of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, really impressive control in addition to being fun to play, Nintendo will soon return with his hero while wearing green, Link. And yet, the newest member of the firm raised a number of questions not necessarily positive. Indeed, it must be said that the first video broadcast seemed very Close to what we could see in that Phantom Hourglass is a new progress was the displacement train. In short, it was time to take stock in us trying to a fairly advanced version of The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks.

    The Legend will never die

It is well known, the Zelda games are safe. Successful, both in substance and in form, they offer an adventure in general matinee reflection, action and some elements of role play. They are also of the securities to sell consoles "(hence the incredible denouement on Twilight Princess, became the last time a game GC and Wii) and which remain among the best titles of the platforms that host them.

The first Zelda for the DS, Phantom Hourglass was also fully completed his contract and we were particularly pleased . Why so much emphasis on the earlier series? Simply to emphasize that each opus de la saga has made its contribution to the building and has proved very enjoyable. Why have some doubts on Spirit Tracks? Simply because, less than two years after the French release of the first component, Nintendo seemed to us to be reused a plate appearance incredibly close to the previous one (a sort of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass 1.5 in total). But appearances can be deceiving. So, truce blabla place and our impressions on the hot version presented.

Noted at the outset that the proposed demo by Nintendo was divided into three parts. The first allowed us to explore a dungeon, the second forcing us to confront a boss and the last one invited us to get around by train. Note that, even if the scenario is still very obscure, history of Spirit Tracks starts 100 years after the Phantom Hourglass (which began immediately after the episode GC, Wind Waker). Recall that in the first DS title, Link and who called himself "Tetra" have crossed paths a ghost ship. Tetra has been trapped, Link had to launch a new era for the help. In this adventure, he met Celia and Siwan who decided to help him in his perilous quest. Our brave man has also made the acquaintance of strange ghosts in armor, he should avoid like the plague for fear of losing life.

It takes the same and again

As stated above, many things Spirit Tracks suggest to Phantom Hourglass. The rendering and animation appear identical - they were flawless for the time and quite close to Wind Waker in the background - and there are even heads known as the spectra exactly. Except that in this second episode, the spectrum will no longer act as an enemy but an ally. Yes, you read correctly! A major news seems to be able to cooperate with an NPC (Non Playable Character) run by the Artificial Intelligence.

And the least we can say is that the spectrum did not seem too stupid. The defense and attack sometimes before us, some enemies like the electric yellow blobs (that Link can not hurt that when they electrifier under penalty). This represents a significant evolution of early release in the mouth that was using the small Goron in the fire temple of Phantom Hourglass. You can call us to follow or monitor manually (by pointing it with the stylus). A dedicated icon lets you set the camera on an ally of the moment (it is not safe for the moment will always be with us and it will always be a spectrum in the final game) .

In addition to help us eliminate the small fry, the spectrum can also help in some puzzles. It will be necessary to make our ally interact with elements of the decor are inaccessible to us (the spectrum unafraid to cross the fire, for example). Better still, it could serve as a means of locomotion for our heroes, walking on the lava and Link on his back. It may also help to trigger / open doors by standing on some tiles, or by pressing a few switches.

But back to somewhat "control" of the spectrum. While it is possible to let us follow without giving any particular order, we can also identify him / impose a path outlined by our precious stylus. This is an evolution of what we had seen in the multiplayer mode of Phantom Hourglass (including where to relocate three spectra against Link). However, the player would it not be too tempted to rest on the aid ? Will it be available anywhere? Are there several types of alloy (perhaps with new features and weaknesses)? Yet many questions remain unanswered, but this cooperation announces promising enigma.

A new adventure on the rails

Other developments, we will be guests as in the first-to DS opus we move from one area to another via a transport vehicle, but it will not ship, but more and train. Who said "train" said rail. And a rail, "said logical" route all mapped out ... therefore, by extension, virtually no freedom of movement (if it is to choose one of two branches sometimes proposed). Just as with the boat, it is possible to get the gun on different targets (stone enemies ...), but also to manage the speed of the mechanical equipment at leisure ... history for example to shorten a trip that seemed to global bit exciting. In good driver in grass, we can also get the horn to scare away innocent cows that might block the way and so ... to go to ground beef.

The version presented we also proposed to confront a boss like a kind of large beetle, and this, in two distinct and consecutive phases. The first is on the ground: Link must overcome his opponent and reach its low point (using a new object to own this album, asking us to blow into the microphone of the DS). In seconds, the boss takes off (in steals hence on the top screen of the laptop) and attack our heroes by sending insects on the bottom screen. These turn into bombs once they receive a blow of a sword. Then Link to post at the right time and set up explosives to get rid of huge bosses, as shown by the end of the video below. An intense combat and pleasant enough, right in line with what is done in the material in the Zelda series.

In the end, this first contact with Spirit Tracks is rather positive. Indeed, while many elements were already present in Phantom Hourglass (and certainly leave an impression of a version "1.5"), the few new gameplay possibilities interviews suggest clearly expect good times in perspective. Both sides of the demo have fully met their office, being very satisfactory. Especially since the implementation remains impeccable and always honor the media. Is still a few flats on the transit train (which appear rather bland and dirigible in this demo) and the scope of using the new ally. There is still many things to discover at the end of the year (period in which the title to be released).
