    Rage Game Preview

The reputation of id Software goes back to the release of PC titles as Wolfenstein, Doom or Quake, the more "profound" 90s. History show that it is adaptable to all platforms, John Carmack and his team decided to design a multichannel engine, id Tech 5, and perform a showcase with Rage, an action game announced long ago, but we were finally able to discover during the Gamescom. If it was not really matter to take in hand the baby, we still could learn.

Talk about being clear entry and if Rage is, without doubt, the title that should help sell the Tech 5 engine, id Software has the idea of a "real" game and the studio has even set head to make some innovations like the least fixed the FPS (First Person Shooter for or action game in first person). To do this, and to radically cut with his previous productions, id Software has devised a new universe, as your references, you will think of Fallout 3 or Mad Max for example. The writer of id Software have imagined that a huge asteroid had kindly found its way to our friendly planet. In doing so, the human population has clearly experienced an episode of "excess" and the cataclysm that followed the survivors unable to take advantage of obvious opportunities for real estate. Simply put, we represent one of the survivors and try to survive by renting its services to the highest bidder. Post-apocalyptic world requires, almost everything is bought and sold everything ... Especially a gun in his hand!

As we said in the introduction, we have only followed a presentation. Presentation which did not go into details of the beginning of the adventure. So we found our host, probably after several hours of play, while it was looking for work. At this level, Rage has forcefully reminded Fallout 3: The player looks different NPCs who face various problems, are ready to hire. There was, for example the sheriff of the small village who tried to get rid of looters and was ready to pay the price for us to address the sad work for him. The search is selected, we then found himself facing a classic FPS or fighting nervousness, obvious, however, was tempered by the fact that our host manipulating a joystick. Players PS3 / Xbox 360 will be delighted to learn that the controller is clearly in the minds of developers, but PC gamers will regret that we have no comment on the torque control via keyboard / mouse, a peak when you think that ID Software is still the inventor of the FPS on PC.

But back to the game itself and our little town of Wellspring. Before starting a quest, it will of course be possible to go talk to other NPCs to get the weapons you can not change. Our host did not linger on the issue, but we were able to identify various guns, a crossbow and a circular blade. Among the special equipment, we can not help but evoke the explosive remote controlled car, classic turrets and spiders moving: a variety of items and therefore, in default of us have been presented more extensively, augurs of original missions. Even better, our host insisted on the possibility of combining various items / equipment collected during our adventures for true technological marvels. Wonders, however, require that plans to own: there are no free lunches in the world of Rage. A personalization equipment that is also found in the other major component of the game: the handling of vehicles. Throughout the game, it will be possible to actually take control of different devices very highly customizable.

These vehicles will of course engage in an exploration of the world far more quickly than if we drag our spats across the map. Rather than detail this part, they also nicely dodged our questions about this, developers have focused on the aspect racing. Vehicles can also Rage and especially to engage in real races, or even outright championships. Our host is unfortunately not enter into details of these competitions. It has however shown some races where victory was of course a certain size, but he also had to kill a maximum of adversaries while looters were not wanting to appear a little haphazardly on the track! The control of the car, the controller always seemed unlikely to pose any problem even if the conduct seemed much more focused "arcade". We've also been amazed by the animation: the PC was undoubtedly powerful, but we observed no decrease in fluidity.

The final stage of our presentation consisted of meeting with the producer of Mutant Bash TV. This program completely crazy in need of participants and we need money ... That falls pretty well and can kill the mutant, while having already led the hard cash which will surely reward us. Here, the fights are rather nervous and very rhythmic, but we were a little surprised at the relative effects of discretion "bloody". The escape mutants left pretty jets in dying, but we have not seen any break-up and no "brand" over the corpses. This is a criticism that we do to achieve that overall we felt too clean: a post-apocalyptic world, this lack of "dirt". It remains more than six months before the release and such information may be added. We therefore keep in mind the most remarkable scenery provided by the id Tech 5, characters and nervousness successful fighting: a good omen for the future, even if we would have preferred to test it all by ourselves ... Keyboard / mouse of course!
