Star Wars: The Old Republic Preview (PC)

After the friendly Star Wars Galaxies released in 2003, the saga of George Lucas looks back on the market of MMORPG with a much more ambitious. We must say that Bioware orders, one can only be confident about the final result. The developer has the cumulative effect hits in recent years: Mass Effect, Baldur's Gate, KOTOR ... And even if The Old Republic is their first experience of MMORPG, we are left won the short presentation that has been made of the title followed by our little quarter of an hour to learn!

Long ago in a galaxy far, far away ... Like all the films and the Star Wars games, it is through worship that the sentence begins The Old Republic. And here we go shivers the spine to the idea of the extraordinary adventure that awaits us. So, a MMORPG that is as ambitious as this one in the world of Star Wars! The soft focus on an often secondary in MMORPGs: history. It must be said that with a background as rich as that of Star Wars, it would have been a shame not to enjoy it. The developers have tried to ensure that the player is part of a gigantic universe, he feels it vibrate in the power of force, he feels the attraction of the dark side, he feels the immensity of the galaxy that surrounds it and can browse at leisure.

But it goes astray, back to our sheep, or rather the history of the game we are well ahead of the film, 3500 years before the birth of Darth Vader. A fragile truce was signed between the Sith Empire and the Old Republic again defended the valiant Jedis. The tension is still growing between the two camps, skirmishes multiply border, and soon the war will be declared again ... At the beginning of the game is the traditional stage of creation. You know immediately that you have to choose your side: either the dark side of the Sith Empire or the light of the Republic. But beware! Because this choice is not final! Indeed, it is above all your actions that will shape your personality. Thus, depending on the choices you make in the dialogues, the missions that you will accept or not to perform, people will support you or you try to oppose , your alignment will change and relations with the NPC to change over the game! This is very important to Star Wars: The Old Republic and is very rare in a MMORPG: Your choices have an impact on truly following your adventure!

This aspect is also highly scripted stressed the importance given to the dialogues that are fully lined and french please! Furthermore, unlike most MMORPGs where the NPCs just to give you quests and you can zap the dialogues without concern, then it would be better to listen to what you said not to regret a choice thereafter. Choices that may have an influence on your adventure that many hours later! The creation of the character will be when you choose your race (only humans are known for now) and your class. Yet only four out of eight have been unveiled. Two side of the Republic: the trooper (very resistant) and the smuggler. The latter can use stealth and a lot of damage in a short time but it has little armor that makes him a weak class. To overcome this problem, it may use elements of the decor for cover.

We also have two classes on the side of the Empire: the bounty hunters (rather versatile class to play remotely with grenades, guns ...) and the Sith Warrior. It is with him that we could try The Old Republic! In fact, this class is a melee class that starts on the desert planet Korriban and has skills to quickly reach melee. And because it can literally jump on an enemy located several meters away from him! It can also perform a jump on the ground using force to stun nearby opponents for a few seconds. Useful when many enemies are around. We also faced a Padawan who, once dead, has enabled our Sith to laser pick up a sword and be armed with 2 swords, one in each hand! Even if our character was low level, we could already feel a sense of power in very nice control. An impression which increases when the fight lasts. Indeed, to use his powers the most powerful Sith warrior must first complete a gauge which is not the battle over no question to begin a battle by your attacks the most devastating since it takes first accumulate enough rage for it.

The fact is that the little quarter of an hour spent playing Star Wars: The Old Republic we really want to see more, and developers will certainly skillfully distilled the information on the title by leaving with all outstanding issues on the functioning of PvP, crafts, playable races, the price of the monthly ... Appointment very soon for more on this promising MMORPG already!
