Directx 10 vs Directx 9

I have Windows XP Sp3 and it have DirectX 9 , and many of my friends suggesting me to get upgrade to DirectX 10? That means i have to install Vista for that. Because i think XP doesn't supports it. Is it? And how much better DirectX 10 is in comparison to DirectX 9 ?

Damm DirectX 9 is nothing compared to DirectX 10. I have upgraded to vista from xp and gaming experience is far better than XP. but for that you should have high config system, because vista require higher system specs. Direct x 10 is nicer and all but vista will bog down your computer such that you will never get the performance that you got from xp.
