How to open ports for Xbox

Hi all,
I can connect my Xbox 360 to internet with my router. But i cannot connect some uses with router. I can connect them directly with the modem. I heard it can be done with opening ports of router. Can anyone help me with this?

Sometimes you cannot join any friend or they can't join you. It can happen if there is a firewall or a router between the Xbox console and the networking hardware. You may have to make configuration changes to enable communication on the specific network ports that are required by Xbox LIVE.
