Xbox 360 live connection problem

hi,
i have internet connection through Dlink DSL-504T ADSL modem.the problem when i try to play xbox 360 game lags quite badly and the connection cuts out just as the match screen appears.how would i go about connecting the xbox to the internet with this?Is anyone else experiencing difficulties while trying to play games on Live?

If you're having trouble with your Xbox Live connection (slow response, echoing voices, etc.), then it may be a NAT configuration issue with your router. To fix it, set up your Xbox 360 with a static IP address, and then forward ports 88 and 3074 to that IP address.

Go to the System blade, select Network Settings and then Test Xbox Live Connection. You'll be able to see what sort of NAT your system is behind, and if it's set to Moderate or Strict then you will only be able to connect to certain other users.

To fix this, set your NAT to Open by opening the following ports on your router: 88 (UDP), 3074 (UDP), and 3074 (TCP).

It is always best to buy a router that will act as a firewall between you and the internet. Whether it's wireless or not, you will have to decide. Keep in mind if you buy a wireless router, you will have to purchase the wireless adapter for the 360 and that's about $100.

If you do buy a router, what you want to do is plug your modem into the router, and then plug your Xbox 360 into the router as well.
