    Counter Strike 1.6 won't work in Windows 7 64-bit

    Hey Guys!
I have been Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit. I've heard Windows 7 is more stable then Windows Vista, so i switched to Windows 7 64-bit. Wow! Its beautiful and super fast..! But i have only one issue... CS 1.6 does not work... When i start Counter Strike 1.6, i get a black background and just hear the music, when i move the mouse i hear the menu sounds and i know that it has started but no display..! I use nvidia Geforce 8400GS. Driver version : 182. Help Guys!

    Heya!
I use a dual boot system and haven't tried Counter Strike in Windows 7 x64... However in the 32-bit it works fine... I have come across these issues a lot these days... The Reasons are :
Windows 7 is still a beta version
Steam has compatibility issues with Windows 7 and works well with Vista
Windows 7 still has poor support for OpenGL
But soon there will be great support for openGL in Windows 7.
    All the best...!

    Hey!
I had similar issues with Windows 7 and Condition Zero. It would play the music for say two minutes and then the display would come... I suggest you download the latest drivers from nVidia for windows 7 that are out... Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions are available on the nVidia website...! All the best...!

    Hey...!
Just found this work around...! Well this will work only if yours is a steam based Counter Strike...! Well you will need WinRAR installed. Right Click on steaminstaller.msi and click "extract to" and extract it to the steam folder. Now rename the steam1.exe to steam.exe and run it... MAke sure you have already installed before this work around... All the best...!

The problem is caused of the more than 2gb ram .

Replace these 2 attached files with the files existing as the same name in your CS folder . now you are able to play it in your 64 bit windows 7 .
