Call of Duty 4 won best game Award at the British Academy Video Games Awards,BAFTA. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) is seen as the British counterpart of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which issues annual Oscars.
The nominees for the audience were previously determined based on sales of the English merchant GAME. There could be voted on by other leaders as Call of Duty 4, Fallout 3, Gears of War 2, Grand Theft Auto IV, World of Warcraft Lich King, LittleBigPlanet, Wii Fit and Guitar Hero World Tour. In total more than 600,000 people took their vote and the most votes went to the first-person-shooter Call of Duty 4.
There were also several prizes handed out by a jury. In that area was Call of Duty 4 once again successful in the categories of gameplay and story and character. CoD4 and Dead Space were the only games that received two awards of the jury, Dead Space got prices for the best audio and best music. The experts chose the Wii game Super Mario Galaxy best game of 2008, when Left 4 Dead mutiplayer game best was chosen.
Other winners Fable II (action & adventure), LittleBigPlanet (artistic achievement), Boom Blox (casual), Professor Layton and the Curious Village (handheld), Race Driver: GRID (sports), Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution (strategy), Spore (technical achievement). The game Boro-Toro was in association with Dare to Be Digital voted most promising game
