Quake Live will be playable on Mac and Linux

Developer id Software has hired staff to Quake Live under both Mac OS X and Linux to run. The developer has also hope that support can be offered to play the game to make Chrome.

From an interview with website Joystiq show that the U.S. developer id Software are web-based shooter Quake Live-suited to make Mac OS X and Linux. The game, which on February 24 an open beta test began, was originally developed for Windows. According to owner and programmer John Carmack, the company hired an external programmer for both ports to work. "These ports are quite high on my priority list," says Carmack. He believes that both versions is a significant role in the market for Mac and Linux software, because the choice of games for both platforms is limited. " The programmer thinks that even the game with some special attention from Apple a few milliseconds faster can run on a Mac than a PC, all is not clear what Apple should do to speed forward. He fears that Apple is doing the surgery only if the game is popular on the Mac platform.

Quake Live producer Marty Stratton thinks that the game may be playable in Google's Chrome browser. At present, only Internet Explorer and Firefox officially supported by id. In its current form, the game already in Chrome, but it is also plagued by glitches. Stratton believes that "ultimately be able to get Chrome officially supported", though he does not know when that will happen.

Indeed, but better (I think) it should be a universal game, so a game (1 program code) to the game on all consoles or computers should work.

It is crazy when we play on all computers and consoles have different !!!

Originally quake for opengl and directx. Probably they use the browser opengl engine. The linux-installer differentiated using opengl. So wine is unnecessary !!

Because the actual game part is not just what is javascript. You should have a java app for that or any browser can be loaded, platform independence, but there are limits, especially if you are working with 3D engines. In Windows you can write best with Direct3D, whereas mac and linux they only support OpenGL.
