unsure Problem with Counter Strike Source Config.cfg file

    Hello Friends,

Whenever i try to play Counter Strike game on my pc, it doesn't allow me to play as it gets automatically close whenever i try to type in the console. It also shows the following error " couldn't exec userconfig.cfg" or something about " couldn't exec userconfig.cfg". Does any one have any idea about it, how can i resolve this problem? Any kind of help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Re: Problem with Counter Strike Source Config.cfg file

In Counter-Strike Game, the config file is the .cfg extension file from your cstrike directory that allows you to edit and configure binds, settings, and game configurations that will be used during the game. There are 2 types of config files: config.cfg and userconfig.cfg. The first is the default one and can be modifued by the CS server. Second cannot be modified by the server and is executed separately with the following console command: /exec userconfig.cfg.

Try to make your own config file.Follow the below steps mention.

    1) Open a text editor (Textpad, Notepad, Wordpad etc).

    2) Enter in your key binds and commands each on a different line. Even the ones that are inaccessible through the user interface configuration tool.

    3) Save the file as "userconfig.cfg" to the default cstrike folder
    (usually C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\YOUR-EMAIL\counter-strike\cstrike\).

    4) Go into your config.cfg at the end of the file and write down the following command: exec userconfig.cfg. This will make the userconfig file to be executed each time the game starts. You can also do this manually by opening the game console and type exec userconfig.cfg.

    5) Save and exit the config file

Re: Problem with Counter Strike Source Config.cfg file

First, go to the directory where you have Steam installed and access to your Counter-Strike Source Folder and then your config folder:

Copy the file attached here to that folder.

Then Right Click the file named "config.cfg" and Open it with Wordpad.

Copy this into the last lines of the file.

Save it and then run your Counter-Strike Source!

Now open up your Console by pressing the "~" key on your keyboard. If it doesn't work go to Options--> Keyboard--> Advanced--> Enable Developer Console.

Hope so this may help you out.

Re: Problem with Counter Strike Source Config.cfg file

Try to create the "autoexec.cfg" file for CS Source:

    A: Open up this folder:

    Code:
    path:\\Steam\SteamApps\<steam_username>\counter-strike source\cstrike\cfg
Right-click anywhere in the folder, and go to "New" -> "Text Document". I recommend using Notepad or another plain text editor for editing these config files.

Open up the new text document and go to "File" -> "Save As".
Type in autoexec.cfg for the filename.

Once it's saved, it creates a new document called autoexec.cfg. This is where you will enter in your console commands. All the commands in this file will be executed everytime CS Source starts.
