Re: Installing Grand Theft Auto IV in Windows 7

when I change the install to xp2, the icon shows up in my taskbar that states, gtaIV has stopped working. it's not that it's a big deal anymore, it's just I built this system to run the game. I guess I just need to install Vista ultimate 64.

idea Re: Installing Grand Theft Auto IV in Windows 7

I have been having loads of the problems mentioned here to get this game working, but have now achived it so thought I would share.

Installed the game setting the install to use compatibility mode Windows XP
The Games for Windows Live failed to install so I downloaded from here and installed.

Installed the latest patch and ran the game without compatibility mode enabled.

Hope this helps some of you out.

Re: Installing Grand Theft Auto IV in Windows 7

It worked for me using the compatibility assistant in widows 7 but dosn't changing compatibility on settings ... maybe a bug of the windows 7 beta version.

Melocco, your system should be allright to play the game. Try to install it this way.

Re: Installing Grand Theft Auto IV in Windows 7

I just got a gateway laptop and installed gta 4 on it and after all my intelations and downloads I still cant play. I keep getting "GTA IV ERROR: Unable to create depth render target- Please re-install Direct X and/or install
the latest video card driver." Now I've re-installed Direct X and installed every video driver I can find since my computer does'nt specify which one I have.
I have even changed the windows compatibility mode on the game and nothing. I have a Gateway NV78 with windows 7 (what do I do)

Re: Installing Grand Theft Auto IV in Windows 7

First off all you need to have a core 2 duo processor, in order to play GTA4 on your system. If you are experiencing this error and cannot get it solved , uninstall your video card drivers (i use nvidia 8800 GTS by Evga) , make sure all drivers are cleared from system , then install 181.20 drivers and then install the direct-x from the GTA IV install directory: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\grand theft auto iv\Installers\DirectX_jun2008

After that you need to just restart your system and it should now work.

You must have a graphic card. Is your game original or pirated? It matters!
Does your cpu have the system requirements?Take care of that first

Re: Installing Grand Theft Auto IV in Windows 7

OK, just for some people that my have stumbled on this looking for a solution. I had the trouble with the compatibility mode grayed out.

I was able to get the game to install by clicking the button that says "change the settings for all users" in the compatibility mode dialog. After you click that you can re-choose which version you want.

I hope this helps someone.

I dont know why it is not working for you but you can do one thing by going into the GTA IV folder and find LaunchGTAIV, just try to run that and it will work. I also used to get similar issues and the solution that i found and works for me was to download Windows Games-Live. Now if i open Windows games-live, log in then run GTA IV through Rockstar all seems to work ok.
