Harmonix co-founder and CEO Alex Rigopolous commented today at the CES "Digital Music Live" conference that there will be no yearly incremental release for the Rock Band franchise in 2009.

CrispyGamer reports that Rigopolous' firm will instead be concentrating on its new Beatles music game, which was officially announced late last year.
"We've actually made a choice to break out of the annual release cycle for Rock Band this year," Rigopolous told the assembled press and industry members. "[This is] partly because the annual cycle places limits on the choices you can make as a developer. We're trying to take a long term view."

Fielding questions at the conference, Rigopolous also hinted that there may be be a piano keyboard peripheral in the works for the Rock Band franchise.
