    • Download the MSXML4 SP2 update. Don't install yet.

    • Close down all running programs and uninstall Flight Sim from Add/Remove Programs. Reboot and log on again with full Admin rights (very important for this type of error).

    • Go to Start > Run > msconfig > General tab and select Diagnostic Startup. Then click the Services tab, scroll down to the Windows Installer entry in the Services column and enable it by clicking its checkmark box. Click OK to close msconfig and reboot.

    • Install the downloaded MSXML4 SP2 update by clicking it.

    • Go back into msconfig > General tab and set it back to Normal Startup. Reboot to complete, then try installing the game again.

Re: problem with installing flight simulator error 1603

Hi, I had the same problem too when I uninstalled FSX, because of a corrupt file issue. When I came to install it again I got the 1603 error message.

I used CCleaner which fixed the problem... use the registry icon underneath the 'cleaner' icon and scan for issues. Then click fix issues. (it asks if you want to make a backup, I would just incase)

    Hope this helps

just search ccleaner in google and it will comeup with the website

Re: problem with installing flight simulator error 1603

You may receive this error message if any one of the following conditions is true: The folder that you are trying to install the Windows Installer package to is encrypted.
The drive that contains the folder that you are trying to install the Windows Installer package to is accessed as a substitute drive.
The SYSTEM account does not have Full Control permissions on the folder that you are trying to install the Windows Installer package to. You notice the error message because the Windows Installer service uses the SYSTEM account to install software.

Re: problem with installing flight simulator error 1603

    Hi,

I've had this problem and solved it by removing all files and folders relating to FSX (eg the folder in Program Data - you need to set to show hidden files).

With that done, I then used the freeware program, regseeker to look through the registry for any mention of 'Flight Simulator' and deleted everything it found.

I then used the microsoft install cleaner and removed Flight Simulator X from the list.

I was then able to reinstall FSX without any problem. I hope this helps.
