EA in restructuring. Also involved the team of Need for Speed

"More than 1,000 layoffs for Electronic Arts, after the disappointing sales results reported in recent weeks. Changes in EA Black Box, the team that deals with Need for Speed. "

Electronic Arts will provide 1,000 job losses. The move is part of the restructuring plan drawn up because of disappointing sales in the Christmas season this year. The U.S. software house has reduced its workforce by 10% and announced the closure of nine production studio.

Involved in this restructuring is also EA Black Box, the software that deals houe of Need for Speed and games of the series Skate. The study, based in Vancouver, Canada, was closed and all employees have been relocated in the study of Burnaby, in Canada. The latter, previously known as EA Canada, will be renamed EA Black Box.

So, this is not real close, but simply a shift in the labor force that will give employees the ability to work together with other studio and other production centers of EA that are located in Burnaby. Under the name of EA Black Box will operate two studies, each of them on different projects and their resources.

Currently, EA Black Box is working on Skate 2 for PlayStation 3 and XBox 360. This is a simulation of skateboarding set in a world open-ended subject to the laws of physics calcolcate dynamically. Great space is given to the customization, because the player can create characters of both sexes and customize them as believers. The release of Skate 2 is scheduled for January 21. The latest project, however, was Need for Speed Undercover, another episode of the series of driving games arcade. The game has not achieved commercial success and critical wished.

The restructuring of Electronic Arts, not yet defined in detail in all its components, will allow the colossus of the game to save about 120 million dollars. The software house also decided to focus more on business PCs, especially those relating to the area of MMORPG (see Star Wars: The Old Republic).
