Lexar "FireFly" USB Flash Drive for Windows 98se

Hi,

I have been using a 1GB Lexar "Jump Drive" USB flash drive ("thumb drive")
for a couple years on my Windows 98se computer without any problems.

Recently, I decided to buy another Lexar !GB, but nobody sells a
Windows 98 version anymore. I don't want a used one so I took a
chance on a Lexar "FireFly" 1GB (WinXP/Vista/Mac) and I hope that somehow, I
can get it to "work" on my Win98 computer. There are no drivers for "FireFly"
at Lexar's web site. I searched the web for about 1/2 hr, and I didn't find a
source.

Do you know a technique, or a source where I can download the driver,
even if it's a Windows XP driver?

Thanks in advance, Brad

Before you type your password, credit card number, etc.,
be sure there is no active keystroke logger (spyware) in your PC.

IMHO, an XP driver is very unlikely to work in Win98SE. Here's the URL
for generic USB mass storage driver for W98 (by LexarMedia):
http://www-user.tu-chemnitz.de/~heha...%20Storage.zip

I haven't used this, so I have no idea whether it will actually work
for your drive.

I am interested in any success stories related to using larger USB or
CF memory devices with Win98se.

I recently upgraded an old machine from FE to SE and now have 2-8GB
flash drives (SanDisc & Kingston) plugged into a Belkin USB 4-port
adapter connected via a single USB port on an this old IBM Thinkpad,
and they run just fine. With only a 4 GB internal HDD evenly
partitioned to C: & D:, this setup allowed me to get all the data
stuff off D: and assign the Windows Virtual Memory Swap file to the
whole 2GB.

Only problem I now have is, that after awhile, the system runs out of
space on D: (the swap file fills the entire 2BG), so I have to reboot
to get it cleaned out. The same problem I had before with FE when the
swap file was on C:, it just takes longer now for it to fill up D:
Some app must have a memory leak, or maybe it's just Win98.

I Googled, found and downloaded the 'Archos_USB_Drivers.zip' and the
'USB_Mass_Storage.zip' files from some site. When I plugged in the
flash drives (one at a time), Win98 found New Hardware, I pointed it
to these drivers, they installed and have worked fine since.

Also found and used 'usbwin98.exe' for something, maybe a smaller
256kb flashdrive awhile back.
