Generic Memory Device Drivers?

Have been wanting to add some flash memory space to my old Thinkpad
but my last two attempts have run into the driver problem. Bought a
Lexar 2GB USB thumbdrive -- but no Win98 driver is available. Bought a
4GB Kingston CompactFlash card for use with my Dazzle CF card adapter
-- but it also demands a Win98 driver. I'm sure there isn't one. Some
time back I tried to install a "generic" USB memory-device driver --
but did not have any success. How many people are successfully using
generic flash memory drivers? Thanks.

I have had no problem using generic flash drives with the Maximus
Decim NUSB driver set.

I have had great success with the so-called Native USB Mass Storage Driver, also
called the Maximus Decim generic driver:

Have you installed the Win98 driver from the CD that came with the Dazzle CF card
adapter?
Is the Dazzle CF card adapter the PC Card device you are referring to?

I think the Dazzle card simply adapts the CF pinout/footprint to
PCMCIA. It has been working fine with a 256MB Lexar CF card. The new
4GB Kingston card is recognized by Win98se and it demands a new driver.

If Kingston doesn't supply a Win98/98SE driver either on disk or on their website,
then all I can suggest is trying the generic driver I and others mentioned earlier,
following the installation instructions exactly.

Well, the Kingston CF card (with adapter) goes into the PCMCIA slot on
the Thinkpad so a USB driver isn't going to be relevant. Thanks.

Probably not, but not an absolute.
All I can suggest beyond that is to contact Kingston support and see what they tell
you....it's their card.
