When I emailed avast asking for when will be the end of the support for avast antivirus and also the end of the support for Windows 98 then they told me support for Windows 98 has ended in the year 2009 but new definitions for avast will be given till 2010. So does that mean that avast will no longer release its update antivirus version anymore and will only supply definition updates till the end of 2010.

Microsoft had announced that support for Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition (SE) and Windows Millennium Edition (Me) would no longer be available from 11 July. It was originally planned that the latter ceases January 16, 2004, but was extended until 30 June 2006. The deadline will ultimately be July 11, 2006. Microsoft stopped support for these products by the media because it is now old versions of the Windows operating system and may expose users to risks in terms of security. They have recommended that customers who are still using Windows 98 or Windows Me should upgrade their operating system as soon as possible with a newer and more secure operating system, such as Windows XP. And therefore all antivirus company such as like avast will also no loger give support for Windows 98.
