ThumbsUp Solution to Vista Task Scheduler

I joined specifically to share a solution to a tricky Vista problem. When you wake a Vista PC through Task Scheduler or some other automated Wake Up program, Vista goes back to sleep after 2 minutes. See these threads for examples of this issue.

After scheduled task wake-up, computer goes back to sleep too soon

Vista Sleep Mode and Task Scheduler

    The solution/workaround is:-

    1) Switch on 'Media Sharing' in Network and Sharing Center
    2) In Power Options, Advanced, Multimedia Settings, When Sharing Media, enable the setting 'Prevent idling to sleep'.
    3) The above will fix the sleep after 2 minutes issue. Obviously, you need to set timeouts for sleep/hibernate as well to ensure your task has time to complete.

This has worked for me for a couple of months now. I have a PC which I log into remotely with LogMein, so it needs to be on all the time. I wake it up and run a backup at 6am. Since this fix it has always been available for login!

    Enjoy
