Many of us might be aware of assigning keyboard shortcuts for Google Chrome and other web browser. However, very few know that it is possible to assign Custom Keyboard Shortcuts and Extensions in Google Chrome. So here I am sharing some tips to set custom keyboard shortcuts for the extensions that you might have installed.

Steps: For assigning Keyboard Shortcuts to Extensions
  • Launch Google chrome extensions page, click on Configure commands link
  • Now you will get a small window with the extension that you might have installed.
  • You can now press any combination of key for creating your keyboard shortcut for that extension and click on ok, for eg ALT+A
  • Once you have added a keyboard shortcut, you will be able to perform the same action by pressing that keyboard shortcut rather than clicking extension’s icon on Chrome’s toolbar. One can free up some space in Chrome’s toolbar by hiding the extension’s icon. You just have to right-click on it and click on Hide.


Steps: For creating Custom Shortcuts for Browser Actions & Bookmarklets
  • In order to create Custom Shortcuts for Browser Actions & Bookmarklets you will have to install the Shortcut Manager extension. It is a powerful extension which has been developed for setting your own custom keyboard shortcuts.
  • Once you have installed Shortcut Manager extension it will appear on Shortcut Manager icon on your toolbar. You just have to enter respected key combination for activating your custom action.
  • Once can choose variety of browser actions for tabs, navigation, page scrolling, text entry, opening and closing windows etc.
  • One can create shortcuts for executing JavaScript code on their current page by loading specific JavaScript file.
