Install WAS on Windows XP

First we need to know that Windows XP Pro only allows a single server set up websites and also a single FTP server. Another limitation is that it allows up to a maximum of 10 simultaneous TCP connections.

If the server you assemble web pages for a local network we only know the IP address of the computer on which you install the server, if we provide service for internet web pages have to have an internet connection with a fixed IP This usually happens when our connection is the type of broadband (eg ADSL is the case).

First you have to install the server on our Windows XP Pro for this do the following: let's START -> SETTINGS -> CONTROL PANEL -> ADD OR REMOVE PROGRAMS and click on "Add or Remove Windows Components"

We will have to select the installation of "Internet Information Server or IIS", and then add details which are required.

We will see a bit of detail which has these options:

* Common files: Files needed for the components of Internet Information Server.
* Add-in Microsoft Internet Information Server: Allows you to manage information internet server.
* Documentation: documentation necessary to further the operation of the IIS.
* FrontPage2000 Server Extensions: These extensions allow our server to include forms, counters, etc.
* Service Transfer Protocol (FTP): only needed if you want an FTP server.
* Service SMTP: Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) allows us to set up a mail service within our intranet.
* Service World Wide Web: need to mount our server web pages.

The most common options to set up a web server are those that are mentioned above.

Highlight your accept and begin the installation.

Once we have finished the installation we see the administration console of our website or FTP. To open the console and go to START -> SETTINGS -> CONTROL PANEL -> ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS and click on "Internet Information Server"

Here I will explain some of the options:

Description: we can put a brief description of our website.

IP Address: will post here the IP address of computer that will make web server, if we are on an intranet (LAN) IP assigned to your computer within the network, if we have an internet connection with a public IP address (ADSL, etc. ) will place it here.

TCP port: the port: we want to be responsive to the requests from visitors, to use standard port for web is 80.
