If you are looking to setup security camera to monitor your home remotely then using a wireless network camera is best option. We can also use USB webcam for this but wifi Webcam is always a better option. Here is the procedure to setup a wifi Webcam Network for home monitoring. I selected D-Link DCS-932L camera for explain this procedure. This WIFI Webcam can connect to network via 802.11n Wi-Fi or you can also connect it via Ethernet.

I know cameras from different manufacturers and models of the processes of adjustment may vary, but generally they are similar to each other. The standard setup is as follows.

Select right place for WIFI webcam

First thing you need to decide is location of the Wireless Network Camera. Because of the power cord you have to place it quite close to a power outlet or you can also use extension. You have to also check whether the network signal is there or not. You can just take the laptop where camera is going to located. If the download of web pages will be made with the help of Wi-Fi then it is ok otherwise that place is not recommended. You can use software’s like like InSSIDer to check whether any other network is using same channel or not.

    Configure WIFI webcam

You have to follow these steps to configure D-Link DCS-932L WIFI webcam. If you have different webcam then configure process may vary.
You should connect the webcam to an electrical outlet that is close to the wireless router, you must first connect the camera via Ethernet to the router. But this is only possible if the router has a built-in Ethernet switch. If this is not possible, you can simply connect the Ethernet switch.
If the router has support for WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup), the camera must be connected to the network with alternating current. Now you need to go to the D-Link setup wizard, This program should also be on the disk that came with the camera. It is important to remember that the computer must be on the same network camera. After that you need to go through all the configuration steps. If something did not work you should try again to run the program and go through all the steps from the beginning.

If you find difficulties while connecting camera to wireless network then you have to select Camera Settings button which you will see in wizard setup process ending and then you have to copy local IP address of WIFI webcam and then paste that IP address in browser address bar after typing http://. Now use login and password of administrator to proceed and then you have to click on setup wizard and then click on Firmware Upgrade after going in to the Maintenance tab.

Set up Motion Detection Features of WIFI webcam

After all the settings provided, you should check whether the camera is ready to complete the work. Make it very simple, web-camera must shoot and transmit the image quality due to any point where there is a connection to the Internet. If the camera is going to use for permanent job that is day and night, some additional functions of the camera just does not need. That is why almost all of the wireless cameras are equipped with a motion tracking, which responds instantly to sudden changes in the "view". For example, if someone suddenly passes by the camera, it quickly fix it and send the "correct" images via FTP or email.

With the help of Web-based setup interface of the WIFI webcam you will be able to access email- and FTP-alert features. it is important to remember that not all cameras can have such functionality.

For the D-link webcam you need to first go to the web interface. Now after going in to the web interface you have to select setup and you will find option called Motion Detection in side menu. Click on that Motion Detection option and select enable radio button. You can also specify some parameters traffic monitoring. All cameras are different. Some are included only when motion is detected, the rest of the time do not work, some work constantly, but transmit a signal only in the presence of motion. You have to select blocks in the image which you want to monitor for motion. After that you have to save the settings.

Now we have to proceed with the auto email feature if the webcam. You have to go to the mail configuration page by clicking on the mail option (at left side of page) and then you have to provide correct setting of email provider. You need to select “set the camera to email you images every time the motion detection sensor is set off” option for Motion Detection after checking the “Enable emailing images to email account” box. This is the main features of monitoring web cameras, which are the most popular. For example, it is very convenient to monitor what is happening at home. Also, such methods of surveillance are often used in offices, and various community organizations to monitor the activities and indoor and outdoor.
