How to install WebOS 2.1.0 & Adobe Flash on Palm Pre & Palm Pre Plus

Here is an short tutorial that can explain in upgrading WebOS 2.1.0 on Palm Pre and Palm Pre Plus. You can follow the steps if you own one of the smartphone and install the mobile operating system. There are number of ways you can install. It depends on your choice which type of process you can to carry out. The first you can try isby using cygwin & by modifying Doctor image file of WebOS. This is called as Meta Doctoring a process to re-modify the internal files of WebOS and packing them back again. While Cygwin already contains a number of common Unix programs such as a bash shell, the C + + compiler gcc, the X Window System XFree86, the TeX typesetting program or the SSH client and OpenSSH server. This are some uneasy process which I advice you to avoid.

You can go with an easier process where you have to bypass the rom of Palm Pre and Palm Pre + mobile hone. You can simply download WebOS 2.1.0 rom from internet. The update is fine and it works prpoerly without any much issue. Go MediaFire and search for this file - webos 2.1.0 bypass rom cooldude9848.jar. Download it. This file is an modified copy of Palm Pre rom which can work most probably without much error. You must also remember that such modifying the rom can cause permanent death of the phone, it is not performed properly. So better read and go through all details before going for the process. You have to stop the process of Backup in your Palm pre and remove all old files. To run the rom, this setup is somewhere important.

Enabling Flash in Palm Pre and Palm Pre +

To enable Adobe Flash here are some small steps :

Upgrade the phone with the new WebOS 2.1.0 rom.
Usually Adobe Flash does not comes with WebOS 2.1 doctor. This can added with the image files by using VZW Pre 2 2.0.1 doctor. Look at the below link for indetail help to install Adobe Flash on your system. You must read carefully to make it work. There are attached packages which you can add in WebOS doctor.

According to Palm and Adobe Flash Player, it will be until the end of the year. If we are up there at the same level as the Americans the same goes for us. Otherwise - well until we reach the state of the firmware. It is true that firmware 1.2 will be skipped and it equals out to 1.3. Follow the link below to get the proper firmware updates.

Adobe might be planing not to directly give Flash on Palm Pre while this is not a case for iPhone. But there are some internet users who patched the OS files and can run flash on Palm also. In the coming time we can compare Palm Pre and webOS, with Windows Mobile were the first platforms to receive the new player face to developers, and this would occur in the year end.

It is better to have some firmware update. This makes some changes to Palms App Store. So it is easier for users to download applications and updates. Apps are now downloaded in the background on the phone. The user can also pause or stop current downloads with all requirements. In addition, the upgrade enables users keep their mobile phone with a keyboard shortcut to factory defaults settings. You also get access to disable certain Internet-related services in order to prolong the battery life of mobile phones. The new WebOS firmware version includes some minor bug fixes

Everyone here is trying to an new update of WebOS on Palm Pre. But with this I also want to highlight the advantages and disadvantages of this update. First by this update you can get more better performance. You can use better applications like QuickOffice, VPN, etc. The update also lets you to run Flash on the phone and visit sites. This improve web performance. You can also configure the battery performance.

Here are some disadvantages that are worth discussing. When you run the update of WebOS you can face some problems. First is the losing guarantee. You can loose the phone guarantee as this are not the officail updates. Many a time after unofficial update you cannot get access to App Catalog. You have to use Preware for its. At first update you will loose your all data. You cannot sign in with our old Palm profile.

Here are some preware version installation instructions from my side which can be helpful.
    • First just besure that you have the latest version of Java on your PC. You can download the latest version from Java site.
    • After that you can use WebOS Quick Installer. This tool can help you to directly install the os in your mobile without must effort and metadoctoring. With version 4.1.1 QI is no longer necessary to download the webOS Doctor.
    • Now run the quick installer and give yes on the first screen.
    • In the current window Choose a webOS Doctor.
    • Now choose the Carrier / type. This is an necessary step.
    • The device by default will be the Palm Pre smartphone.
    • Now begin the download of WebOS files. This can be an 200Mb file download.
    • Do not forget to check that both WebOS Doctor and WebOS QuickInstall are in the same directory for an automated setup. You can do further modification in the developer mode.
    • Later on connect the phone to pc and follow the screen instructions.

I have some fix that can also help you out for the same. Read Below :

    1. What if the update is fails : Connect to your pc and restore.
    2. Is the final command "DEVICE = preplus" is correct : Yes, that's right because the original webOS Doctor for the Palm Pre Plus is determined.
    3. Why WebOS updates is not officially supported : It is not legally possible, since HP has the rights to the Palm software and thus they may be offered only by them.
    4. Is it possible to purchase apps by using the existing Palm profile after update : Initially there were problems logging before but would have to be fixed till now. If it does not work, it helps if you try it a few times. The purchased apps work well. I would recommend, to create a separate profile for testing webOS 2.1. If you do not like the speed you can then reset your Palm Pre still on 1.4.5.
    5. Where to find the patches : The patches are are being adjusted by developers only. This may take some time. Many things that were previously solved with a patch but have also been integrated directly into webOS 2.1.

Re: How to install WebOS 2.1.0 & Adobe Flash on Palm Pre & Palm Pre Plus

Apparently everything works properly as per the setup looks. It is applicable for both voice and data, and all-new 2.0 webOS are enabled. I tried the setup and things went fine here. This is just for the testing purpose. The web browser with Adobe Flash is ok and voice dialing is much better with improved universal search. The only bad thing is that we still have not found a way to migrate user profile, but otherwise okay. So you can give a try, and if you are lucky enough to move those files properly in the proper directory, there will not be any future errors. Sometime there is an issue of installation when the files are not patched properly. Still there are various better version of patch file on the internet that are working.
