It is common onw that you have heard about two ore more IP addresses, public addresses and private addresses. This gives great flexibility to set up local networks. The basic idea behind NAT is to translate the private IP network to a public IP network that can send packets to the outside, and then translate the public IP back to the PC's private IP that sent the packet, so you can receive once the response arrives.

The principle of static NAT is to assign a public IP address to an internal private IP network. The router can therefore be associated with a private IP address e.g. 192.168.0.1 a public IP address routable on the Internet and do the translation, in one way or another, by changing address in the IP packet. Static address translation allows you to connect the internal network machines to the internet seamlessly, but does not solve the problem of the shortage of address since no routable IP addresses are needed to connect n machines on the internal network.

You can implement NAT over your network with an advance knowlege of networking. There are many more security features of this technology. It is described in particular security feature. Behind it lies a mechanism that prevents a by-product that stations are behind the NAT router from outside directly addressed. The connects which are initaited from outside are discarded and can not get access to the local network. Hackers who scan all TCP ports cyclically to an IP address for open ports (port scan) got no response from the router. NAT also acts as a rudimentary firewall that blocks all intrusions from the outside.

It is a protective function against unsolicited unwanted and unsafe traffic. But rather by chance, turns out NAT as a security feature for local networks. NAT does not replace a packet filter, and certainly not a full firewall. NAT can be described as a security feature misleading and negligent. Nevertheless, the layman NAT is always happy to sell as a safety feature. But this is wrong.

The process of NAT is not difficult and you can follow some steps with most appropriate device to make this work. In simple words The NAT (Network Address Translation) network is a mechanism that serves to translate the IP addresses of machines. There are move advance technologies that can be implemented over this and also possiblly easy to also. The security features is one which is more recommended under this.

NAT is a very powerful mechanism that allows us to create local networks with great flexibility. That does not means that it has no drawbacks. Due to some reason many of the applications might not work behind NAT. Anyway the NAT functionality which are the SNAT and DNAT are the most common and important, and understand enough to have a pretty good idea of what is NAT and what happens in the routers / gateways give vent to our local network.

There is certain problem of NAT on network. The entries in the NAT table are valid only for a short time. For some applications the data exchange appears infrequently. This means that the connection can be permanently broken. As a result, these applications may not be considered to work in NAT environment. Another problem arises when a large number of outgoing connections. Then NAT tables are always crowded. This means that individual connections to fly from the NAT table and break connections accordingly.
