Common ways to install Gentoo Linux

Gentoo Linux is some thing that you must try once if you are an Linux fan. This is an bit different distro then in comparison what you got today. There is lot more things to learn in this and you can advance your Linux knowledge. Here is an basic setup of Linux which you can follow. The setup is not so bad, but after that the configuration of entire system is a bit time consuming checking that all stuff is working or not. Mostly today's Linux setup provides automated setup and support.
    • First burn the CD or DVD of Gentoo and reboot. Boot from the disc. Once the CD since it will be executed. The first screen that we must do is the following, which we must press Enter.
    • At one point, the installation on a black background will ask the type of keyboard, you must write 13 which corresponds to the Spanish. If you do not press anything, we will pick the default option.
    • After a few minutes the screen will appear, Gentoo LiveCD, with desktop and server XFC graph (remember that I do to lighten)
    • On the left is the icon to start installing Gentoo on your PC. Double-clicking the partitioning graph will appear which will allow us to choose where to install Gentoo. Once we click Next.
    • On the next screen lets you define the mount points and go back in case something goes wrong. Once our adjustments press Next.
    • A screen will give us information on the progress of the installation of basic packages, a process that will take time.
    • Once completed, we enter the root password > Now, the time zone.
    • He goes on the network configuration. Once we click Next.
    • On this screen the user must create, must stop a little in it and fill in the fields.
    • Now we get to choose the desktop, we chose XFCE, and other applications like firefox.
    • Start copying files needed. Now we can choose the "demons" that we want to incense at startup. We select the Num-Lock.
    • The next screen allows you to choose other parameters of gentoo as the source of the konsole, time, keyboard, etc.
    • With this installation is complete, so I restart the computer.

    Gentoo Server Setup

In order to install Gentoo on a dedicated server, you have the server in rescue system start. This is done via the robot. After the server has booted successfully into the rescue system, the disk is partitioned. If the partitions created and formatted, they can it to / mnt /, as described in the Gentoo instructions.

The network card configuration you about DHCP. These follow the instructions in the branch just for DHCP and the install DHCPCD. Important point, so that after reboot of the system can also log in which: It is vital that before the first reboot to ensure that sshd at boot to boot, so you do not at the very beginning elegant "locked out". This is added to add sshd default runlevel:
    Code:
    rc-update add sshd default

    nano-w / etc / ssh / sshd_config (configuration setting)

Since after the first reboot no users are created, you should first allow root login in the sshd_config.
To see if that works SSH, you can change the port (on 22 operates the rescue system), / etc / init.d / sshd start the server to start with and as a test log (with the new root password) . After the reboot you then have a virgin Gentoo system on the machine. Gentoo is a meta-distribution that offers usually not the finished packages, but a script collection and related tools to compile the system from the source code itself.

Re: Common ways to install Gentoo Linux

Ubuntu seems to have lots of facilities and is good to have the same in GUI. But after an average a tutorials and installation I am getting more fresh things to learn in Linux by this operating system. It is really a good experience to learn a bit more of a system quite different from what it seems, at least not based on Debian. I continue with the installation and this really will an different kind of experience. A screen will give us information on the progress of the installation of basic packages, a process that will take time.

Re: Common ways to install Gentoo Linux

It is right to say that Gentoo is one of the linux distro which is more difficult to configure and maintain but even this has its good things. And you have the system what you want, but I like the console installation, the graph gives a little hint and sometimes it is closed. Gentoo is a Linux distro which teaches you the actual working of Linux operating system and get better information on the same. The operating is much more intuitive and will allow you to work on some complex method of setup.
