    Accelerating video files with VirtualDub

You filmed an object or a moving person and you want the video to be played in fast as we can see in some movies? With the free software VirtualDub , this operation is possible. To speed up a video, you need to increase the framerate, ie the number of frames played per second. The free software VirtualDub allows you to easily perform this modification.

If the video formats AVI, MPEG is not supported by VirtualDub problem, this is not the case in all formats, including MP4 and MKV lately. With the AviSynth utility, you can open any video format in VirtualDub.

After increasing the framerate of your video, you can then export the accelerated passage to send to your friends, or integrate it with your usual software installation to your movie, add music to it, etc..

    Download and install VirtualDub:

VirtualDub is a free video editing software you can download from here.

    • Click the Save button. Choose a location on your hard disk where to put the downloaded file, for example, and downloads click Save again.
    • Once the download is complete, click the Open button.
    • Then click on the Extract all files command.
    • The Compressed Folders Extraction Wizard opens. Use the Browse button, select the folder where to copy VirtualDub C: \ Program Files \ VirtualDub for example, and click the OK button.
    • Click on Extract button.
    • The VirtualDub folder is displayed. We will now create a shortcut to the software on the desktop. Just click the right mouse button on the file VirtualDub (VirtualDub.exe if you view the file extensions).
    • Click the Send To command and then click Desktop (create a shortcut).
    • VirtualDub is a shortcut to be created on the desktop. You can rename it by clicking it and pressing the F2 key.

    Create a logon script:

To allow VirtualDub to open MKV or MP4 files, you must create a small script that will force VirtualDub using AviSynth to read your file.
    • Open Notepad by clicking the Start button, click All Programs, Accessories and then Notepad.
    • Paste the following code:
      Code:
      DirectShowSource (chemincompletdudossier \ filename.ext ")
    • In Windows Explorer, locate the video you want to accelerate. Click the right mouse button in the toolbar file and click Copy the address in time text.
    • Back in notepad, scroll down and select chemincompletdudossier the Edit menu, Paste.
    • The full path to the folder where the file is inserted.
    • Then replace filename.ext with the name of the video file to accelerate its expansion followed, SANY0031.mp4 example.
    • Click the File menu and click Save.
    • Scroll Type and select All Files (*.*).
    • Name the file script.avs, choose any folder where to save at the root of your hard drives for example and click Save.
    • Finally close the notebook.

    Accelerate Video:

By increasing the framerate, that is to say, the number of frames displayed per second, you can access the video. Our in reducing this number, you will conversely slow video.
    • Start VirtualDub double clicking its shortcut on the desktop.
    • Uncheck the Always ask before opening this file and click Run.
    • Click the File menu then Open video file.
    • Select the format script AVS you have to do with the notepad and click Open.
    • Your video is open in VirtualDub. Click on the Video menu and click Frame Rate.
    • Select the Change option to frame rate (fps) and enter the number of frames per second to play. The current fps of your video is shown immediately above (here 29,970). Multiply this figure by example 2 to double the speed by 3 for the triple, etc.. Click OK.

Re: Accelerating video files with VirtualDub

    Export accelerated video:

All you then have to save the video accelerated in the format you need: in an uncompressed format to avoid losing quality and then to mount the video, or in a compressed format to save space and distribute your video immediately.
    • Now click the Video menu and click Compression.
    • Select the Xvid MPEG-4 Codec. If you do not want to compress the video for reuse later in HD editing, select the option (Uncompressed RGB / YCbCr) and click OK.
    • Then click the File menu then Save as AVI.
    • Select the folder to save the file, give it a name and click Save.
    • Finally close VirtualDub. You then have your accelerated video in AVI format. You can reuse it in your editing, send it to your friends, put it on YouTube, etc..
