Change the administrator password in Windows Server domain

If a system failure, because we have been hacked or you have lost the domain administrator password on a Windows server that is 2008-2003-2000 domain controller with active directory can recover or rather subtract with a new easy way. The following instructions are for resetting the password in Windows 2000, 2003 and 2008 Server with Active Directory.

The password is reset through the Restore Mode Directory Services (Active Directory Service Restore Mode, DSRM) in the access using the local administrator account on the server, unable to use the domain. The password for this account requests that we believe when we can install the Active Directory with dcpromo. It is totally independent of the domain administrator and is stored as on any Windows computer, within the Security Accounts Manager (SAM) in the% SystemRoot% \ System32 \ Config.

If not try to put the local administrator password on the server for restoration mode using any of the multitude of live CDs that contain programs that exist to reset passwords Windows 2000, XP, Vista and 7, as the Offline NT Password & Registry Editor also can be used via the Ultimate Boot CD for Windows.

Re: Change the administrator password in Windows Server domain

Windows Server 2003 and 2008 :
  1. Reboot and press the "F8" for us to see the recovery options menu and select "Restore Mode Directory Services." The computer starts normally but without the services of Active Directory domain.
  2. Login with local administrator user.
  3. Prior to this we have to download 7-Zip file containing everything you need and an excellent script by Robert Strom to automate this process:
    MUST FILE: dc_pass_reset.7z
  4. Unzip the file and see that it contains several applications and cmd script, first of all we have to edit the file has a line resetpass.cmd within which reads:
    net user administrator P @ ssw0rd1! / Domain
We have to change the administrator user name domain administrator to have to change the key and change P @ ssw0rd1 Now for the key that we want to. Be careful with the password security policy that you have set on the server, normally the password new must be at least 8 characters, at least one case is that at least one is tiny and contains at least one number.
  5. To proceed to change the password run the script: change-admin-passwd.cmd
  6. Restart the server in normal mode and log into the domain with the password you've put on the script.

Re: Change the administrator password in Windows Server domain

Windows Server 2000 :
  1. Reboot and press the "F8" for us to see the recovery options menu and select "Restore Mode Directory Services." The computer starts normally but without the services of Active Directory domain.
  2. Login with the user local administrator.
  3. Execute "regedit" from the Run command and go to HKEY_USERS \. Default \ Control Panel \ Desktop, where change:
    SCRNSAVE.EXE change the logon.scr by cmd.exe

ScreenSaveTimeOut change the value 900 for 15

ScreenSaveActive can be 0 or 1 we put in a
  4. Reboot normally. When we get to the screen of initiators of the session, CTRL-ALT-DEL, we expect 15 to 30 seconds and displays the command line.
    MMC Dsa.msc
Dsa.msc is the file that launches the admin console users and computers in the current directory.
  5. Now we can change the password of any user, including the domain administrator.
  6. After changing the password close the management console and left the command line type exit, and can then log in with the new administrator username and password. DO NOT FORGET to change the modifications we have made in the register as they were before.

Re: Change the administrator password in Windows Server domain

Under such circumstances, you may need the help of other software. There are some free softwares can settle the problem such as Ophcrack, Offline NT Password & Registry Editor, Cain & Abel v4.9.31. However, when you operate these softwares, the disadvantages are obvious. You may lose your patience if you experience them.
If you want to reset your password easily and timely , some softwares with high capability price can help you. For example, Windows Password Recovery Tool 3.0, Windows Password Key, Password Recovery Bundle, etc...
