How to use a video wallpaper on Windows 7 desktop

With the edition of Windows Vista, Microsoft has integrated utility DreamScene that enables users to use a video as wallpaper. Unfortunately this utility is missing from Windows 7 and it is not possible by default to play a video in the background of the Bureau, except through VLC which is a rather cumbersome solution in terms of resources.

With the freeware utility Windows 7 DreamScene Activator, you will be able to fill this gap and add to Windows DreamScene 7. You can then use a video format MPG or WMV instead of your screen. Note that the software also works with Windows Vista, you will enjoy your DreamScene whatever edition of Vista. Note that 32 and 64 bit editions are supported.

To illustrate your animated background, you can use your own videos, or pick among small animations adapted to DreamScene and you can download for free on the Internet at some specialized sites.

Download and install Windows DreamScene Activator 7:

Windows 7 DreamScene Activator is a free software that allows you to activate the DreamScene utility in Windows 7, but also in any edition of Windows Vista to take advantage of video in the background of your desktop.

    • Download Windows 7 DreamScene Activator for free and save it anywhere on your harddrive.
    • Once the download is complete, click the Open button.
    • Click the Allow button.
    • Click Extract all files.
    • In the wizard that opens, click the Extract button.
    • Windows Explorer will then open the folder unzipped. Click the right mouse button on the Windows 7 DreamScene Activator 1.1.exe and click Run as administrator.
    • Click the Yes button.
    • In the window that opens, then click on the button Enable DreamScene.
    • Finally close the window of the software.

    Setting a video as wallpaper:

Now that DreamScene is enabled, you will be able to set a video as the background of the Bureau. You can use any video format to MPG or WMV.
    • In Windows Explorer, open the folder containing the video to use as wallpaper.
    • Click the right mouse button on the video and the menu that appears, click Set as Desktop Background.
    • The video is immediately applied to the place of your screen.
    • To pause the video, click the right mouse button on a blank area on the desktop and click Pause DreamScene.
    • Repeat Play DreamScene and click to start playback of the video.
    • At any time, you can return to a classical background through the Customize section of the Control Panel.
