    Change your screen’s brightness with ambient light

    Ever become aware of how people texting at nighttime have that creepy blue glow? Or awaken ready to note down the subsequent great thought, and get blinded by your PC screen? Throughout the day, PC display seems fine—they're planned to appear similar to the sun. But, at 9PM, 10PM, or 3AM, you most likely shouldn't be looking at the sun.

    Next time when you work on your computer, the light is not the same. During the day, you're bathed in warm sunlight while in the evening and night, you are enlightened by the cold light of lower bulb or halogen.

    The brightness and colors that you see on your screen so disturbed after it found the time and the light source used. The night, for example, your screen falls too bright, which can hurt the eyes and prevent you from sleeping well then.


    Based on this finding, the free F.lux will help you put the brightness of your screen in relation to ambient light. Depending on your location on the globe and time of day, F.lux will adjust the brightness and softness in the colors of your screen so you do not have to force your eyes.

    In short, an entirely software to use if you spend much time in front of a computer screen, day or night.

    Download and install F.lux:

    F.lux is a free program you can download from here. It makes the color of your computer's display adapt to the time of day, warm at night and like sunlight during the day.

    It's even possible that you're staying up too late because of your computer. You could use f.lux because it makes you sleep better, or you could just use it just because it makes your computer look better. Its installation is pretty simple. Here it is:
    • Download and save the F.lux file anywhere on your hard drive.
    • Once the download is complete, click the Run button.
    • Confirm the execution of the software.
    • In the installation wizard that appears, click the button I Agree.
    • The software files are copied to your computer and F.lux is automatically executed. Its icon is housed in the notification area to the left of the clock.

    Choosing light sources:

    F.lux is active immediately and automatically adjusts the brightness according to time. You can easily refine these adjustments as well as the light source used (sunlight, halogen lighting, fluorescent lighting).

    • Click the left mouse button on the icon F.lux in the notification area to the left of the clock.
    • The window displays the curve of brightness, depending on time of day.
    • Click the curve to start the simulation of the evolution of the brightness of the screen next time. You notice that the evening F.lux decrease brightness and use warmer colors, suitable for external lighting.
    • Click Change settings.
    • Move the slider to adjust the daytime light during the day.
    • Move the slider to set the night At night light. Put the cursor for example if you work with fluorescent neon Halogen or if you use a halogen lamp for light at night.
    • Click the Done button.


    Set location:

    By default, F. Lux based on your time zone to determine where you are and determines the hours of sunrise and sunset. To improve the brightness changes, you can define exactly where you are.

    • Click the left mouse button on the icon F.lux in the notification area to the left of the clock.
    • In the main window F.lux, click the link next to Improve Your location information.
    • In the window that opens, click Locate.
    • In the Web page that appears, enter the name of your city and click Go!.
    • Select the coordinates that appear and copy them with Ctrl + C.
    • Paste the coordinates in the window Where am I F.lux with the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + V or copy them and then click the OK button.
    • The change is immediately taken into account.
