Re: Create your free iCloud desktop online

    Step 1: Register

    1. In the Address bar of your browser, Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, type "www.icloud.com/en" and click on the green sun "Free Signup NOW" on the right hand side.

    2. In the "Desired username", type the username of your choice, here "EricTheRed". Fill in the other areas name, email address, password, etc... and finally click on "Sign up". Please note that if your nickname is already in use than you will have a message appearing on the right of the area. So you have to choose another one.

    3. A message informs you that your account has been created and a confirmation message is then sent by mail. To connect to your virtual machine, you can either click on the link Public Profile indicated in this email or enter address www.icloud.com/en in your browser. In the top right of the page, that appears, type your username, your password and press Entrance keyboard.

During the first connection, read the terms displayed and click Accept.

    Step 2: Import your files

The storage capacity is limited to 3 GB. Here is how to import images, video, music, etc.

    1. Open the browser files of icloud by clicking the right mouse button on an empty part of the Virtual Office. In the menu that appears, click the option "My icloud". The new window displays, on the left, the tree of the virtual disk. In our example, we will import images. Then click on the "Pictures" folder.

Please note if the "Pictures" folder is not visible, select the "Documents" folder to make it appear.

    2. Before importing your files, you can organize the folder hierarchy of icloud into sub-folders. In the right pane, click the right mouse button in an empty part, here the "Pictures" folder, and select the option "Again", then "Folder". A folder named by default "New Folder" is created. Click on it with the right mouse button and choose "Rename". Use the input area that appears to type, for example, "Holidays".

Repeat this operation for other files that you need to add.

    3. To import files, select the folder in which you want to add, here "Holidays". Click in the toolbar of the window, the "Send" button. In the bottom right of the window that appears, click "Navigator".

    4. The browser on your hard drive will appear. Locate and select the files like you're used to and then click "Open". Your files are added gradually in the folder selected in Step 3.

Step 3: Change the background of the Virtual Office

You can choose a solid color background or a photo.

    1. Click the right mouse button on an empty part of the Virtual Office and select "Properties".

    2. The "Control Panel" window appears. In the vertical band on the left, click "Office". Click, in the right pane, the "Backgrounds" tab. Then depending on your tastes, keep it up:

    Put a background image

By default, the "Background Categories" area has value of "Xcerion" and you will find the images suggested by icloud. Just click on one of them to see immediately the report. Please note that if you don't like anyone then click the arrow in the "Background Categories" and choose "Hamad Darwish" to discover more.

    Put a colored background

In the "Background Categories", choose "Custom Color". In "Choose a background color of wallpaper" part, you can see an area displaying color palettes.

If you check "Use a gradient of color", a second area appears. To set the color for you, just make click-drag with the different sliders.

    3. Once you are done with your choices, click on the "OK" button.

Step 4: Arrange the desktop shortcuts

Add, on the desktop, a shortcut to a folder

Open the browser of the virtual machine, see point 1 of step 2. To create, here, a shortcut to the "Holiday" folder, select "Pictures" in the left pane. The Holiday folder appears in the right pane. Select it and make a click-drag to the Virtual Office.

To change the size of icons, click the right mouse button on an empty part of desktop and click "Properties".

In the left pane of the "Control Panel" window, click "Office". In the right pane, select the "General" tab and select the appropriate size, eg 128 x 128 pixels for large icons, or 32 x 32 pixels for mini-icons. Click "OK".
    Change the position of shortcuts

By default, they are aligned vertically. To disperse them on the desktop, select one and make a click-drag to the desired position.

To align them horizontally, right-click on a blank part of desktop and choose "Align", then "Horizontal".

Upload a virtual disk file on the local disk

On vacation, you have access to a computer with a Internet broadband connection and a browser. Here's how to save on their hard drive files previously imported into your virtual machine. After you connect to your computer icloud, open the file browser by clicking, for example, the "Cloud Drive" button on top of Office. Locate and select the files you want to save on your PC. On the "File" menu, click on the option "Download to the local computer". In the window that appears, select the option "Save the file", and then click "OK".
