Control and Increase Productivity Using Mouse Gestures

Whether to launch a program, close a window, switching between two programs, you use the mouse to move the pointer on the screen and you activate a function using the buttons on the mouse or by using shortcuts with your keyboard.

To save time and simplify your task, you can perform all these manipulations with the mouse movements using the software High Sign. By drawing an imaginary line up, you can eg copy the selected text, as you would with the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + C or-down menu Edit / Copy. Draw a C from the top and you close the current window.

In short, it is a more intuitive way of working on a computer that can also help people with mobility difficulties.

The High Sign freeware will allow you to use your mouse movements to control Windows and all your software: Internet Explorer, Firefox, Word, Excel, ... You can easily run software, simulate the press of a button or a keyboard shortcut, close a window, switch to another window and reload the current Web page, return to the previous page, etc..

Many movements are already pre-recorded High Sign, but you can totally create your movements and assign them to the functionality of your choice. Here is an experiment worth trying absolutely, especially since you can always make your manipulations in parallel to the usual mouse and keyboard.

    Download and install High Sign:

High Sign is an application that allows users to easily create and map custom gestures to perform common actions on their Windows PC. Unlike some other mouse gesture recognition software, the user is not limited to a set of predefined gestures. The gesture recognition engine was written from scratch and was designed to focus on maximum recognition accuracy with a minimum sample set (typically one (1) sample is all that's required to reliably identify a gesture).

    Use movements in Windows:

By default, High Sign includes many preconfigured movements. You can now use them. Here is how:
    • Launch High Sign clicking its shortcut in the Start menu.
    • A new icon appeared in the notification area to the left of the clock.
    • Click on it with the right mouse button and uncheck the Training mode.
    • Click again on it with the right mouse button and click the command Available Actions.
    • The list of movements and the corresponding actions is displayed. Memorize a few moves to test them.
    • To close the window using a movement, simply press the right mouse button and while holding it, draw a C-screen drawing starting from the top. A thick blue appears on the screen allowing you to see what you draw.
    • Release the right mouse button, the action related to the gesture is executed: the window is closed.
    • You can then, in the same way (right click + down motion) run the various actions recorded in the High Sign to control Windows and your software.

Create a movement to launch a software:

While many movements and actions are proposed by High Sign, you can create your own movements and assign commands of your choice. Firstly, here is how to run a program with the movement of your choice.
    • Click on the icon of High Sign in notification area with the right mouse button and select the option Training mode.
    • Press the right mouse button and while holding it, perform the movement to create an "M" for example to get your mail.
    • High Sign recognizes the letter or character that you drew. Click the Next button.
    • The list of open source software is displayed. You can select the software in which you want this movement is active.
    • So the movement is active throughout, pull down the list New Application and select All Applications. Click Next.
    • Then select the action to take when you do this movement. Scroll Keyboard - Send Hot Key and select Run example - Gold Command Program to run software.
    • In the Action field Name, enter the name of the software to run, here Outlook.
    • Click the Browse button.
    • Select the program to run and click the Open button.
    • Finally, click Done.
    • To use this new movement, you must disable the learning mode High Sign. Just click on the icon with the right mouse button and the option Deactivate Training mode.
    • You can now use this movement (right click down + M) to launch your email program.

Create a movement to use a software command:

High Sign allows you to choose the software in which a movement is active and the command associated with it. To run a command, it must have a keyboard shortcut Sign qu'High can emulate. In Internet Explorer 8, you can assign to such a movement, the abolition of browsing history including the keyboard shortcut is Ctrl + Shift + Delete.

    • Launch Internet Explorer.
    • Click on the icon of High Sign in notification area with the right mouse button and select the option Training mode.
    • Press the right mouse button and while holding it, perform the movement to create a "W" for example.
    • High Sign recognizes the letter or character that you drew. Click the Next button.
    • Internet Explorer is automatically detected. If it does not, select All applications and click on the list. Click Next.
    • Unwind while the Available Actions list and select Keyboard - Send Hot Key.
    • In the Action field Name, enter a descriptive name for this command Empty historical example.
    • Check the boxes while before making up the shortcut keys: Ctrl and Shift (shift corresponds to Maj). In the Hot Key field, press the letter used in the shortcut, Delete in our case. Then click Done.
    • To use this new movement, you must disable the learning mode High Sign. Just click on the icon with the right mouse button and uncheck the Training mode.
    • You can now use this movement (right click down + W) in Internet Explorer to clear your history!
    • You can similarly create movements for orders of your choice in the software you use.

    Customize the visual indicator:

When you make a move, it is also drawn to the screen as a blue line. You can easily customize this feature to make it more or less thick and change its color to better reflect on your screen.

    • Click the right mouse button on the icon of High Sign in notification area to the left of the clock and select the Preferences command.
    • In the window that appears, use the cursor Visual Feedback for increase or decrease the thickness of the line displayed on the screen.
    • Click in the preview feature of the area Visual Feedback.
    • Choose the new line color and click OK.
    • Click Save to save the change.
    • The new color and the new line thickness are effective immediately.
