    Sharing our Articles on Wikipedia

    Electrical, computer, history, geography, building, cooking, medicine, every person is an expert in a particular area. On this principle rests the free encyclopedia Wikipedia. This encyclopedia participatory involves everyone in the world to expand and improve the content available free to everyone.

    For in addition to seeing quality articles on any domain, you can even participate in their improvement: information is missing, another is wrong, there is a spelling error: it is enough for you intervene and make the change yourself in a few seconds. If you have the knowledge, you can even write a new article in collaboration with other users.

    Find an Article:

    Looking for information on a specific topic for a lecture or a presentation for example? You can do this using the search engine from Wikipedia. Here is how to do that:

    • Visit wikipedia and in the Search field that is in the left column of the page, enter your keywords and click the Browse button.
    • The page on the search topic is displayed. If the keywords you enter are several items, their list is displayed. Then simply click on the topic that interests you.
    • Once in the article, the words referring to other articles are highlighted in blue. Feel free to follow them to expand your knowledge.



    Exploring thematic portals:

    If you want information on a wider field, you can browse the thematic portals. These include a collection of articles on a particular theme.

    • On the home page of Wikipedia, you will find a list of key thematic portals. For example, click the portal environment which is in the Company field.
    • You now have access to articles and links relating to the environment.
    • A wealth of knowledge within the reach of your mouse.


    Create an encyclopedia account:

    To participate in Wikipedia and share with others your knowledge, you can create a user account. It is not mandatory, but it allows you to publish your name in articles and additional information and track your contributions. Otherwise, your IP address is used to sign your contributions.

    • On Wikipedia, click on Create an account or log that is in the upper right of every page.
    • Then click on Create Account.
    • Copy the text from the image and then choose a username and password. To be contacted by other users by email, enter your email address in the field My email. Check the box Remember my password (cookie) to store a cookie on your computer to automatically identify you when you visit.
    • Finally, click on the Create Account button (optional).
    • Now you will be identified by your username when you visit Wikipedia.
    • If this is not the case, click on Create an account or login.
    • Then enter your user name, your password and click Login.

    Starting with the sandbox:

    To get started, Wikipedia offers the sandbox. A page that anyone can edit at will to get his hand on the various tools and syntax editing and writing. Note that the sandbox is served all hours.

    • On Wikipedia, click on the link welcome newcomers to the area contribute to the left column of the page.
    • In the First step category, then click on the link Sandbox.
    • Click the Edit tab.
    • You can test the different tools of formatting.
    • Click Preview to see the result.
    • With a little practice, you will quickly add tables, images, ... to obtain a more complex formatting.


    Improve the content of an article:

    An article is not complete? A spelling mistakes? You can even add or edit to it.

    • First, display the article in question.
    • Some sensitive items have restrictions that are displayed in a banner at the top of the page. If nothing is said, is that you can freely operate in the article.
    • To change the text of an item, simply click on the link [Edit] who is on the right of its title.
    • You can also view the complete source of the article. For this, use the Edit tab located at the top of the page.
    • Then perform your edits in the text.
    • Click Preview to verify that you have not made a mistake and then click the Save button.
    • Everyone has access to the article then updated by you.


    About the article:

    The content of an article is misleading or wrong you think? You can chat with other users who follow the subject. To do so:

    • In the subject in question, simply click on the Chat tab.
    • Feedback from various users are displayed.
    • To say to someone, click the Edit link next to his comment and type yours below. The discussion may well take place in the area of the original comment.
    • To add a new comment to ask a question, for example, click the + tab located next to the Edit tab.
    • Choose a title and enter your comment.
    • Click the Preview button and then click the Save button to send your comment.

    Creating a new article:

    Before creating a new encyclopedia article, you must first check using the search engine it does not already exist.

    • If this is not the case, then you go on a page of a related field, such a broad field and then change the page by clicking on the Edit tab.
    • At the point where you want to refer to your new article, enter the title of the article in the eighth double [[title]] for example.
    • After previewing the article, save it by clicking the Save button.
    • On the page you just modified the link you added appears in red. Then click on it.
    • You can start working on the new section.


    Track changes to an article:

    The history of changes to each page is kept, it is easy to compare the current version of a page with its previous versions.

    • To do this, simply click on the History tab.
    • The list of changes will appear, presenting the date and author of the amendment.
    • Click on the link to a news release to view its differences with the current version.
    • You can also compare two earlier versions by selecting them and clicking the button Compare selected versions.
    • The differences between the two versions are then specified lines per line.
    • If you want to return to the previous version of an article, because it was vandalized for example, click in the history list.
